Math not your strong suit, eh? 155 - 79 = 76. Besides the 79 run did happen.

It's damn good considering he had the entire offense on his back since Juice couldn't do [censored].

Edit - Just a note, don't mean to come off harsh here, because I looked at my post and it sounds pretty damn harsh.

You're right, 15 has the right to say anything he wants. If it is not suitable, then the Mods will ding it. One thing not mentioned is the DBs. Both teams return intact their back 4. USC has an All-American (Taylor) and OSU has an all-american (Jenkins). USC's wide-outs are 4-6 inches taller than OSU's DBs, and I'd expect the speed for both sets are about the same. I believe that USC's DBs and OSU wide-outs are about the same size, except for Stoneburner, who I do think might get in for a play or two, as it appears with early graduations, we're 'down' on numbers.

Maualuga is straight ahead bull rush, with Cushing better side-to-side, and in my opinion the better LB. I'd guess he'll match up with a TE or drop into coverage. USC had more LBs than carter has pills, do whoever fills the Will will be plenty good (just like OSU's Will). Whoever mentioned it, Athlon rates the USC tandem as higher, more pro-worthy than OSU's......but we'll see on the field. Everson Griffin is a Gholston clone, but Boone practiced against him for several years, so maybe there's a tiny chance he'll hold him in check. USC graduated two magnificant interior DL, but again, they have athletes in reserve. Folks, USC reloads just like the Buckeyes.

Motivation: OSU expects nothing less than a NC. They have made that known from the git-go, and rightfully so. USC makes that a priority also, but they're lying low in the weeds, have seen or heard nothing from Petey or the players about the game. Methinks that they have been pointing to this game since the Rose Bowl cheers faded into the Pasadena sunset.

We'll see, and whoever wins will have the inside track to the NC, and it promises to be a heckuva battle. On the whole, I see little pluses and little minuses up and down the comparison lines, but no large gaps to exploit. We'll see how well the coaches break down each team. Until then....

Mendenhall had 155 rushing yards, and 1 long of 79. Take away the 1 run, and thats less than 10 yards for the game.
Even after conveniently taking away his biggest play (or your biggest failure), he still picked up 4.75 ypc on the other 16 carries.

Not to mention the fact he was rendered useless by the rest of the game becoming a blowout. He only received 2 carries in the 4th qtr, picking up 20 yards. He would have certainly broken the 200 yard mark if the rest of his team had shown up.

Not exactly running wild, is it? A good game, but not one of his better for the year.
9.1 ypc, 214 yds rush/rec, 1 td... all on the wrong side of a 4 td blowout. That game was easily one of his best for the year, if not his most impressive performance.

Can we just agree that any time someone argues that "if you take away XXX...", they're automatically wrong and subject to flogging? If you take away Joe McKnight's 65 yard run against Illinois, he was under 100 for the game. Never mind the fact that he in fact had a 65 yard run or that, even if we ignore it, he had some 7.0 ypc on his other 9 runs. Ignoring plays is a really poor way to argue anything. Don't do it.

No kidding! That is usually their best run and/or true weakness to the defense. Unless the stats are like one 70 yard run, and 50 yards total rushing, its not worth mentioning.

Beyond the bad math, the whole premise of Mendenhall having a bad game is off-base even considering the final score. He had a great game, and Illinois was overmatched in just about every other facet.

Everyone said, loud enough for the others to hear: "Look at the Emperor's new clothes. They're beautiful!"

"What a marvellous train!"
"And the colors! The colors of that beautiful fabric! I have never seen anything like it in my life!" They all tried to conceal their disappointment at not being able to see the clothes, and since nobody was willing to admit his own stupidity and incompetence, they all behaved as the two scoundrels had predicted.
A child, however, who had no important job and could only see things as his eyes showed them to him, went up to the carriage. "The Emperor is naked," he said.
Thank you, Iron Colonel.

Never said he had a bad game, just didnt think that he ran wild, thats all. And what I was saying was hypothetical about taking away the 79 yard run, hewould have been under a hundred yards for the game. Yes, he had a good game.

155 yds in about 3 qtrs is a pretty big game, however you want to rewrite it. Too bad he had many long runs on the day, so your hypothetical is trying to erase a pattern in that game... huge gains by Mendenhall. 16, 8, 79, 29, 18... and 55 on a pass out of the backfield.

The only way that wasn't a big time performance is if doing so against your defense isn't that much of an accomplishment.
