The guy in charge of Ohio State's program recognizes the nation is looking down on his squad because of the way it has played in recent marquee games.
The Buckeyes were beaten by Florida 41-14 and by LSU 38-24 in the last two Bowl Championship Series title games. Last Saturday night, the fifth-ranked Buckeyes played at No. 1 Southern California and were steamrolled 35-3.
Ohio State coach Jim Tressel was asked during his news conference this week about the national perception of the Big Ten, and how poorly his team has played in those three high-visibility games.

"Well, I don't think you can refute the fact that in what has been considered big games, two national championship games and a big September game in 2008, we have not been successful," Tressel said in the understatement of the young season.He said he was aware that Buckeyes fans think their team has been outplayed, outcoached and outexecuted.
"They're not happy unless we're the best," he said. "That's the way it should be. ... This is what your legacy is."
The Buckeyes will once again be without the services of starting running back Chris "Beanie" Wells when they meet Troy on Saturday. Wells is still recovering from an injured right foot.
Tressel has also not named a starting quarterback for the game, with both senior Todd Boeckman and freshman Terrelle Pryor splitting time behind center in practice this week.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
As the Ohio State defense shifted focus from last week's debacle to this week's challenge, the coaches had an interesting conundrum. ? How do they keep the players believing in themselves after a 35-3 loss Saturday at No. 1 Southern California in which it was obvious on several crucial plays that they weren't good enough?
? How do they keep their players believing in a system that has been good enough to lord over the Big Ten for three seasons but has failed in two straight national championship games and against USC?
? How do they keep their defenders from casting aspersions at the offense, which also was not up to the task? It scored just three points. It had three turnovers, one an interception returned for a touchdown, and it had penalties that thwarted a promising second-quarter drive that could have changed the dynamic of the game.
"I'm the first to admit it: We didn't play as well as we need to play, we didn't coach as well as we need to coach. You feel awful and disappointed," defensive coordinator Jim Heacock said. "But we're not going to sit around and -- that's past. And let's go."
What helped the defenders move on was watching video of Troy, which visits Ohio Stadium on Saturday. No matter what happened against USC's power-built offense, this next set of Trojans presents a vastly different challenge with a no-huddle, spread offense.

Troy's Maurice Greer has lost most of the weight he gained while he was battling testicular cancer.


Had Maurice Greer not absorbed the hit to the, ahem, "midsection," his life might be very different now, and his story might be tragic. It was two years ago, during preseason practice at Garden City Community College in Kansas, that the sophomore running back was hit and felt pain. He went to the sideline, had the area iced and, after the swelling did not subside, was taken to a hospital.
Doctors took a small tissue sample and discharged him. But as he was on his way home, they called him with news he never expected.
He had testicular cancer.
"It was a blessing in disguise I got hit," Greer said. "I would have never known."
Two years removed from that shocking diagnosis, Greer is expected to play for Troy on Saturday in its game against Ohio State in Ohio Stadium. He is a reserve running back for the Trojans.
His road back has been much smoother than Dan Potokar's. The Ohio State receiver from Grove City has fought testicular cancer for nearly a year. Recently, it was found to have spread to his brain.
Greer was diagnosed in August 2006 and declared cancer-free that December. He returned to classes at Garden City in February and last season rushed for 778 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Buckeyes fighting for respect against Troy

THE 13th ranked Buckeyes (2-1) go from playing the Men of Troy to fighting for respect against 21-point underdog Troy (2-0).
It will be interesting to see how Ohio State's players and coaches respond from this past Saturday's poor showing. If the Buckeyes are still pointing fingers and feeling sorry for themselves, Troy will become a challenge.
This season, Troy has scored 96 points and has only allowed 17 points in two games. Troy would love to make Ohio State their signature upset.
Players to watch in the spread offense for Troy are quarterback Jamie Hampton, running back DuJuan Harris and receiver Jerrel Jernigan.
THE VIEW
Was that the remnants of Hurricane Ike or the wind being let out of Ohio State's sails that caused the damage throughout Central Ohio Sunday?
If the Buckeyes have another poor showing against Troy, Gov. Strickland should be prepared for massive destruction across the Buckeye State.

Sherrod Martin came to Troy in 2003 as a "grayshirt" signee.
Now, the nation's No.1 pass thief after an incredible three in one quarter last week, is the graybeard in the Trojans' secondary.
"It's getting to the point where I can get my senior citizen's card," the soon- to-be 24-year-old free safety said with a laugh. "A lot of guys who played here come back and see me and say, `You still playing?'"

His 15 tackles this season rank third-best behind linebackers Boris Lee and Bear Woods for the Trojans, who take on No.13 Ohio State in Columbus on Saturday in a game that will be broadcast on AM-1070 and on the Big Ten Network. His three interceptions against Alcorn State last week earned him Sun Belt defensive player of the week honors.

Have run into a problem men and I need your advice.

I won't be getting the game on a channel I know is broadcasted on gamedays. However, today I found these big ten network EXTRA channels. There's five of them and I think they'll show our game. So do I risk it and stay home to see if the game comes on either channels 692-696 or Do I go to a restaurant were about 100 buckeye fans watch the game (45 minutes away though) and get the game for sure?

www.bigtennetwork.com should have the overflow channels, and what games will be on them, for specific areas and providers. I registered there and they had sent me an email today regarding just that. I didn't look at it though.

Here's the link. It says to enter your zip code into the box on the right, then pick your provider to find out what channel it's on.

Yeah...if we aren't ready to play, then we could be in for a very tough game. We need to come out fired up, and playing the best we have all year. We need to show that USC was just that good, and we have become stronger because of it. Remember 2005? We lose to Texas and Penn State early...but we didn't fold, and by the end of the season, we were a MUCH better team.
