I am very proud of the way we responded to adversity last night. Pryor is proving himself to be a winner and he makes the big play when we need it. Overall, I think Pryor had a sub-par game (didn't see wide open receivers, made bad decisions passing the ball, etc.). However, when we needed him to make plays, he made them. Brian Hartline came up big last night. Brewster had another excellent game from what I saw. Boone threw a huge block on Terrelle's game winning TD. Ok enough ranting, time for my breakdown of positions:
QB: I think overall Terrelle probably didn't play as well as he would have liked to. He made some bad decisions running the ball that lost us a lot of yards. He missed some wide open guys, especially Posey's crossing route. He took some losses when he could have thrown the ball away. However, his competitive nature and talent just take over when it counts. The first and last drive were a thing of beauty. Terrelle showed great poise numerous times during those drives, especially the last. So even though I think he could have played better, Terrelle performed in the clutch and came up big, so I am pleased with his performance. However, he has a lot of work to do, which just goes to show you how good he could be.
RB: Boy is it great to have Beanie back. We are just night and day better with him in the game. His stiff arm and power are just so fun to watch. I know TP got the MVP last night, but I really thought Beanie was our MVP.
WR: I thought we played pretty well here. Sanzenbacher did well, though he needs to try and lessen the blows he has been taking...that is 3 games in a row he has got destroyed. Hartline came up huge last night and I couldn't be much happier with his last play in the past couple weeks. Ray Small is nowhere to be seen...other than the drop he had, after already stepping out of bounds. The Wisconsin DB's seemed pretty tough, so I thought we did well. I'm still wanting to see some more of Posey and Flash.
TE: Not much here other than the fact that Brandon Smith had a big catch on that last drive for a first down.
OL: From what I could tell, Boone had a great game last night. Brewster had some really nice blocks as well. I thought we did a good job here but sometimes Wisconsin seemed to have about 20 in the box on us.
DE: I am utterly unimpressed here. I can't recall one game where we had remotely consistent pressure or push on the line. Wilson is nowhere to be seen, Heyward was pretty much nowhere to be seen, Gibson has an occasional moment. Overall, there is just no consistency here to speak of and it is hurting us bad.
DT: We are just hurting here. We get beat game after right up the middle...JL can't fight off the double teams. There is absolutely no disruption from the middle. We aren't going to improve here so I'm just going to skip this section from now on unless we have a good game here.
LB: Ross Homan had the game of his life (just as I had called on page 6 or 7 of this thread). He really excells against a run-oriented team like Wisconsin. Freeman had a pretty good game but I was really disappointed with Lil Animal...when I would rewind the plays, I saw James getting madhandled. Again, part of it is the DL's fault but I think James is starting to regress.
DB: Overall I thought we played a good game here, at CB anyways. Jenkins had the huge pick at the end and he was consistent all night. Chekwa was playing pretty far off of guys but he didn't give up too much. However, our safeties were giving up some pretty big plays. However, we did a pretty good job against Beckum I felt.
Special Teams: We still have no kick return game to speak of...MoWells had a really nice return and I have always wondered why he isn't back there instead of Boom. Also, Saine hasn't done anything back there and we need a shiftier guy like Ray Small. Small, however, has done a great job this year at PR. Our kickoff coverage has been spectacular though, minus the late hit.
Overall: We played a really good game considering we were on the road in Madison...that is always going to be one of the toughest places to come out of with a win, no matter who you are. I also think that Wisconsin is a lot better team than people give them credit for and the loss to scUM was on a bad day. I'm just really happy to get out of there with a win, though we still need to keep improving.

"How sweet it is"

I watched the last drive again today. TP was just so calm in the pocket...amazing when you think about the fact that he's a frosh playing in one of the harshest environments in college football. The completion to Small I watched in slow-motion. That was a thing of beauty. He was scrambling a little and lofted it right over two defenders and dropped it perfectly to Ray.

Unbelievable. I think TP has a ways to go, but man, the future looks so bright! You just can't teach the intangibles that he brings. He has IT.

For the lack of a video, I took some pics of still captures on my TV Shoddy, but it shows it.

Having watched it many times, I think Robo could have fought a little harder to wrestle away from the interference, but the DB was quite proficient at taking away the inside arm.

He swatted it back, robo adjusted, swatted it back, robo adjusted.
Robo goes up, both DB hands shove & pull Robo's arm down.
Robo arm goes back up towards ball, DB right hand yanks upper arm away from play (to left of screen), and slams down on elbow with DB left hand.
Robo tries to catch it with his only hand, gets his hand on it, but doesn't bring it in.

Good stuff, and it certainly helps your point. But like I said last night, football is a game of contact. I'm not denying there wasn't contact; there's always contact. But a healthy WR should be able to have the strength to have both of his arms free to make the play, don't you think? I mean how rarely do you see a WR only having one hand reaching out for the ball when it's right there? never.

Great work jwins.

I personally felt that the play could have been called for interference, but the DB did make a good play.

The thing I feel should be taken away from this is that TP made the adjustment in the game to throwing the deep ball. The first deep ball to Saine was thrown somewhat short, into very good coverage. This pass to Robo was much improved. The Wisky DB had decent coverage, but Robo had a half-step. TP put just the right touch on this pass. It dropped in over Robo's shoulder, caught Robo in stride, and had the power that only Robo had the chance to catch it, had he control of his right arm.

What do you want Robo to do? Toss the guy over his head like he's [censored]in' Bam-Bam Rubble? Next time you're around a young teen, like a son or nephew, let them grab on your arm and try to move it up in the air. It's a lot harder than you're making it out to be.

Contact, fine. Blatant grabbing and holding? There's a reason those are penalties.

I think Robiskie could have twisted out but would have broken stride. It was much more the DB than the injury that caused that play. For all we know, the DB knew about that weakness and exploited it blatantly. I certainly see your point more than originally, but still think it was largely to the credit of the DB (even if it was a bit illegal).

I think this was even more true on the other play by this DB, holding down Saine. But CBs always try to get away with as much as possible, and given the way it was called, he capitalized on the lack of officiating there.

I agree. I'm just saying if it were that easy to just "get your hands up", no DB would risk the penalty by grabbing. It's a risk/reward...uh,...thing. They weren't callin' [censored] like that, so grab the guy and hope they continue not callin' [censored] like that.

Ok you win with effort and facts. Good stuff. But you gotta admit, that throw was right there though. And what do you think about the two passes that Hartline 'dropped'? And Small's mishap in the endzone? That's three passes, including two TD passes that could have really boosted TP's numbers.
