I think you're correct on this one. The backup at least performed decently against PSU. At the beginning of the season, I want to say that there was talk of Painter being an NFL prospect.

I'd rather not jump to the conclusions against Purdue. Yes, Ohio State should have the talents to beat them on the field, but anything can happen. I hope Tressel is continuing to work with Pryor about his tendency on not running the ball when it's a passing play. I've noticed when they call a passing play, it's like Pryor is forcing himself not to run, but to pass or take the sack. I am proud that he is really trying to be a pass first QB, but think about it, he is a true freshman right now and he'll have plenty of time to learn the college game. He can afford to scramble plenty on passing plays. I think that'll make it even easier to pass the ball because the opponents would notice that he'll run if there's a seam available to him. We all know that he can be a pass first QB already so it won't be an issue and he does not need to prove that anymore.

Anyway, I'm very interested with the game between Penn State and Wisconsin. It'll give Ohio State a great shot at an outright title if Penn State gets upset by Wisconsin. I think it'll make the whole Big Ten race even more interesting because it'll be almost all teams with 1-2 losses to each other. That'd be similar as how it is with SEC (teams beating up on each other).

Boilers in trouble as they visit Buckeyes

It's one thing for a football team to follow a loss to Penn State with a trip to Ohio State.

It's something else for that team to make the trip to Columbus without confidence.

Purdue's (2-3, 0-1 in the Big Ten) in a heap of trouble this week. Saturday's 20-6 loss at home to Penn State exposed the warts on the Boilermaker offense.

The passing game couldn't even be considered average. Curtis Painter threw for 112 yards before getting yanked at the end of the third quarter. The running game was worse, with Kory Sheets accounting for 59 yards.

Total offensive output: 241 yards. Not good enough.

"We just have to push on," said Painter, who will be the starter against the Buckeyes. "It's not time to sit back and think."

All through Painter's career, coach Joe Tiller has referred to him as "Steady Eddie". He was a guy that didn't let things get to him ? good or bad. Even after being threatened with the hook against Central Michigan a couple weeks ago, he seemed unflappable.

That changed after Saturday's game. Painter wore the emotion of being replaced on his face. He seemed pained. His answers were more labored than normal.

Maybe it's a good thing he hurts. Maybe emotion is something that will help his game.
