I'm really hoping Painter plays the game of his carreer and keeps the outcome in doubt until halftime. That way, Beaine can have his first 200 yard game of the season. Then, to start the second half, Beanie hits two hun on the opening drive, we go up by 14, and Todd gets some PT on our way to a rout of epic proportions.

What i mentioned in the last post was that yes we only gave up 20 points, but Penn State had almost 3 or 4 4th & 1's on our half of the field and elected to punt it. They were playing extremely conservative towards the end of the game, and could have easily gone for more than 20 points if they really felt like it. I commend my Boilers for only giving up 20 points to the HD Offense of Penn State, but that doesn't mean I was impressed with what I saw from them.

The 6-foot-6, 235 pounder overcame an interception and four sacks to lead Ohio State on a 12-play, 80-yard game-winning drive he capped with an 11-yard touchdown run with 1:08 remaining.

It's crunch time for Purdue running back Kory Sheets and the Boilermakers, whose loss last Saturday to Penn State was their 16th in a row to a ranked opponent.




Ryan Baker said he was on his way to meet with reporters yesterday when he first heard about Purdue having lost 16 consecutive games to ranked teams. Baker, a defensive tackle who in five years with the Boilermakers has never been part of a win over a ranked team, was dumbstruck.
"I'd never thought about it," he said. "It crossed my mind that, wow, that's not a good statistic. It's a horrible statistic. But I really don't care if they're ranked or not ranked."
What rankles Baker and his teammates more at the moment is losing, period, to anyone. Purdue has lost three of its past four games heading into its matchup Saturday with No. 12 Ohio State in Ohio Stadium.
"This team is motivated by anger right now," Baker said. "I'm angry right now, we're all angry, and we just want to win. I don't like to lose, nobody likes to lose, and that's what's motivating us right now."
Purdue has not beaten a ranked opponent since defeating Iowa on Nov. 8, 2003.

Still bruised and woozy from a head-banging game Saturday at Wisconsin, Ohio State probably could use a bye week. Purdue will do.
The Boilermakers visit Ohio Stadium this week, and they seem like an ideal opponent for the 12th-ranked Buckeyes, who saw two players literally knocked out against the Badgers and who will head back on the road to face a physical Michigan State team next week.
Purdue might be the valley between those peaks.
The Boilers are 2-3, have a pillow-soft run defense (ranked 104th nationally), have not beaten a ranked opponent in five years and are in the midst of a nasty quarterback controversy.
Easy pickings, right?
The Buckeyes, of course, run screaming from this line of thinking, fingers in their ears to avoid hearing such talk. Coach Jim Tressel does not approve this message.
Asked if he was concerned about a letdown game, Tressel said, "I would hope not. I hope we're really caught up in us trying to get better. This Big Ten game is worth as much as any other Big Ten game, so if you want to be the champions of the Big Ten, you better not have letdowns."
A chance at a third Big Ten title is what Tressel has been selling his players since OSU lost at Southern California on Sept. 13.

In the ESPN preview, in a list of stats, they indicate that the Bucks are 35 and 17 when scoring iunder 30 points. this is since 2001.

When scoring over 30, the Buckeyes are 43 and oh.

Obvious that scoring more points means offense is on the field longer and the other team has less chance to score, but still... it would be interesting to see if this plays out for the remainder of this year.

It flies in the face of perceived "Tressel ball" philosophy. You know, field position, good punts, solid defense, etc.

The outstanding defense has not really been there this year, and this stat reinforces the notion that we just need to SCORE POINTS.

I feel pretty good about that...
