again, a B for kicking field goals against one of the worst defenses in the Big 10, and with all kinds of field postion?

Overall, Michigan State shows that they are all about Ringer, and that their defensive performance against Iowa may have just been Iowa playing bad, and that overall they haven't been that great anywhere except for running the ball. Ohio State shows that the offense can play horrible, but the defense and special teams can win games for them.
OVERALL FOR SEASON: Ohio State B-, Michigan State B-

Appreciate the work that went into this analysis, but I take exception with some of the grades. Let us remember that Wisconsin was up 19 at half and still managed to lose to Michigan and that they were pushed, shoved, dragged, mauled at Camp Randell by Penn State. Point being that other than USC, the bucks haven't played much of a schedule. Kicked field goals against YSU, danced into the fourth with OU, got pounded by USC, got off to a good start against Troy then went to sleep, thought they'd turned the corner against Minniesota, shoulda, coulda lost to Wisconsin but hung in, kicked field goals against Purdue despite all kinds of field position.

I think giving any grades above C to this offense is grade flation. It's giving one of the most taleted kids in the class a pass for mediocre work.

Hard to know what to think about the defense. They've kept the Bucks in all the games except USC. Jenkins has played well and they're developing a talented backfield, but there's no push up front and as a result there aren't many highlights of Laurenitus and Freeman.

This could be the week Rip Van O line wakes up. If the running game finds Beanie and Boom ready to go with TP they'll be a load. If the line starts blocking the running game will be a holy terror, but then that's what we expected from the git go. Meantime, there's a lot of young, fast talent in this freshman class that's been gradually working into the line up.

I'm optomistic about this team, but I'd like to be ecstatic.

More than bragging rights at stake in this family feud

COLUMBUS - Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel abhors coaching against close friend and former cohort Mark Dantonio this afternoon in a showdown of Big Ten co-leaders. Problem is, slugging his so-called "brother" in the mouth - figuratively, of course - is the best thing Tressel could do for his dysfunctional family right now.
The 11th-ranked Buckeyes are coming off a 16-3 victory over Purdue in which they failed to score an offensive touchdown for the second time this season. They are ranked 108th in the nation in passing, ahead of only the three service academies and eight other hidebound teams.
A win today in East Lansing over Dantonio's streaking Michigan State Spartans would essentially drop MSU two games behind Ohio State in the race to the Rose Bowl, based on the head-to-head tiebreaker. Both teams are 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the Big Ten.

Cause for a pause: Tight-lipped time in Tressel family

 It's a family thing. Just don't tell that to the Spartans and Buckeyes.
 Mike Tressel , linebackers coach for Michigan State, has his uncle and father coming to town for today's big showdown between Ohio State and Michigan State.
 But there's a slight problem:
His uncle is Jim Tressel (right), coach of the Buckeyes; and his father is Dick Tressel , running backs coach for the Buckeyes.
 So, any family secrets?
 "It's fun to talk about what the other side knows about us and what we know about the other side," Mike said. "It's one of those deals, 'Well, they know this about us, so maybe we should do that. Well, maybe they are thinking we're going to do that because we know they know that.'

A thought occurred to me late last night, and it was so simple, it seemed to slap me in the face.

With all of the red zone trouble that we've been having, why isn't Stoneburner getting some PT in those situations? he's what, 6'5"? I don't care if he is a freshman, let him post up and go up and get the ball. We were probably gonna settle for the field goal anyway, we might as well take a shot with a very tall reciever, freshman or not.

Just a thought, wondering why( as i'm sure Tress and Co. have a reason,) this hasn't happened. Any ideas? Is there something I don't know about?
