Penn State quarterback Daryll Clark is conjuring up memories of Michael Robinson leading the Nittany Lions to the No. 3 ranking in the nation in 2005, while the Nits have watched tape of the Kerry Collins-Ki-Jana Carter undefeated offense of 1994. After four wins by a combined score of 211-40 against weak competition, Penn State isn't the obvious favorite with conference play beginning this weekend, but it is the most dangerous team in the Big Ten.
With Ohio State in flux, there is no favorite.
Wisconsin is the highest-ranked Big Ten team at No. 9 in the AP poll, with Penn State (No. 12) finally jumping Ohio State (No. 14) and Illinois hanging on at No. 22. Minnesota and Northwestern join the Nittany Lions as the conference's only undefeated team, 3-1 Michigan State remains an intriguing darkhorse, 1-2 Michigan is the only team with losing record, and as a conference, the Big Ten is 6-6 against BCS teams, with two of the wins coming against Syracuse.
Figuring that the Big Ten won't be taking a spot in the national title game this year, who's going to the Rose Bowl?

Is Penn State legit?
After seeing them pound Oregon State and then pound on everyone else they've faced, I think Penn State is a major threat this year. Granted they've not played anyone really, but they seem to have implemented the "spread hd" pretty well and quickly coming out of the gate.Both o and d lines have also played extremely well.

Do you guys think they are mor eof a threat to us than Wisky, or are both tough enough to give us fits?

I think they may be more of a threat. We'll learn a LOT more about them after the fighting carrots come to town this week.

What the hell is a "spread hd"??

yes they are the biggest threat in the big10. they have more talent than wisconsin and better lines than we got. They will win the big 10 if they stay healthy.

historically penn state has always played us tough. i wouldn't expect this year to be any different. do i think they are legit? as brody mentioned, they really haven't beat anyone yet. but they have looked very impressive thus far. we'll learn more about "how good" they are as the big 10 season begins.

Agreed.

I think that OSU will beat them for two reasons:

a. It's at home
b. The last time we played the [censored]tany Lions at 8 on primetime TV was in '05, and that basically ruined our championship hopes. Malcolm Jenkins and other seniors that were freshman during that game will want this one (I think).

They've played no one. Their running up 40+ ppg against who they've played is about as impressive as us putting up 43 on YSU.
