COMPLETELY off topic, but in Ireland, they don't drink 'warm' Guinness (or 'warm' any other beer for that matter.) what they DO is drink Guinness at ROOM TEMPERATURE, which is something else altogether. you have to be aware of the fact that the average temperature in Ireland is about 50 degrees F, which is only a few degrees 'warmer' than your average refrigerator.

'warm' Guinness is a myth.

anyway, great game!

Wells, Pryor bounce back as Buckeyes reinvigorate their season

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Craig Holman | Dispatch
Tailback Chris Wells gets loose for a 55-yard touchdown run during the second quarter to give Ohio State the lead for good.

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The wake-up calls jangled in the Ohio State hotel rooms at 6:15 a.m. yesterday, and when the players pulled aside the curtains, it revealed a dreary, overcast landscape.
The Buckeyes' challenge would be large: Rebound from a gut-shot loss to Penn State two weeks ago and find the internal fortitude needed to quell feisty Northwestern.
To make matters worse for the Buckeyes, after they scored on their opening drive, the Wildcats answered to tie it.
It was at that point quarterback Terrelle Pryor and tailback Chris "Beanie" Wells rose up, adding the necessary splashes of color to the gray canvas that was both the weather and the state of Ohio State's season.
Pryor converted a third-and-long with a 22-yard zinger to tight end Rory Nicol.
Two plays later, Wells appeared trapped in the backfield. But he bounced off defensive tackle John Gill, got a slingshot push in the back from offensive tackle Alex Boone and catapulted into the clear.

The Bottom Line

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

City of broad shoulders, meet Beanie's tree-trunk thighs. Great Lake? How about the Kid's Golden Arm? And the gray skies only matched all the scarlet gear on a day when OSU had more answers than Wikipedia. Leaves are awarded on a zero-to-five basis.
Offense (four leaves)
Generous, perhaps, considering the line at times seemed Super Glued to the turf. But the inimitable Wells showed patience and the precocious Pryor countered with poise, and when it was all done, Ohio State had a season-high six offensive touchdowns and 441 total yards. Look ma, no blands.
Defense (four leaves)
It took awhile for the carnivores to assert themselves; Mike Kafka carried 24 times before he took a serious lick. But once established, it became rote that the Wildcats got smote. Three forced turnovers, four sacks and three other tackles for loss showed NU who was boss. Nader Abdallah, grab a game ball.

After checking out the Northwestern messageboards, I have to ask... do they really know what football is? Or are they just whiny crybabies?

Tressel is "classless" and tOSU is "Thug University" for not just politely handing them the ball, walking over to the sidelines, and letting NU score touchdowns at the end of the game? Tressel is "classless" because their team can't stop ours?

Something tells me they don't quite get the point of football...

Maybe I missed something, but is there a reason for Gibson not registering a stat against NW despite starting? Reading the Box Score at the Ozone, I realized I couldn't remember seeing Gibson make a single play.

I'm not sure what was up there. I'll have to go back and watch the game again today. Thad was in to start...I remember him tipping a ball at the LOS on the first drive. Then at some point in the second half I noticed he wasn't in there anymore. JT has been rotating a lot on the d-line. Maybe he just found that the group in there was really clicking and that's why Thad sat.

Gibson is a beast and I love watching him go. But N. Williams sure looked good on those back-to-back sacks in the 4th too!

I haven't read through all 56 pages of responses but I just wanted to add a few comments about the game:

1.) Who was doing the camera work for this game? Was this outsourced to the Helen Keller school of photography? I've seen better camera work from the stands with a 10mm hand held on you tube.

2.) The only thing more embarrassing than Andre Ware in the booth was Andre Ware's pro football career where he was not only a major bust in the NFL but in the CFL as well. 83 passes and 5 touchdowns with Detroit, Andre was the 2nd QB's backup. I think that means he didn't even have a clipboard to hold.

Regarding the "piling it on comments" by Andre Ware, let me just make this rebuttal. Which game were you watching? What part about Tressel's expression did you not understand? Or are you as bad at reading facial expressions as you were at reading the Lions play book?

Don't answer that Andre - just stick to AM radio - much like the NFL/CFL it's clear to me that you aren't ready for the big time and at this rate, I'm sure you never will be.

'warm' Guinness is a myth.

anyway, great game!
It's not a myth here

Before I really knew about the entire Ireland thing (you are correct BTW), I would drink it at about 75F or so.....still good.

I guess WARM is relative

Seriously though - at least one of those Northwestern fans actually gets the underlying dynamic.

Re: Another view of the fake punt
Reply I'll be honest, I think Tressel quite vividly remembers 2004 and will never let us beat him again. OSU seems to save a special kind of beating for us every season -- and they didn't thrash us like this in our losses to Tressel prior to 2004.

Secondly, we shouldn't forget in the wake of this loss that we're still a good football team. If we win out and finish 9-3, when it comes time for BCS selections, OSU will be able to point to a 9-win Big Ten team and say they beat us by 35. That's not insignificant -- we're not 6-6 this year.

(And Guiness should always be served at cellar temperature

(It's warmth as it passes your lips is another matter entirely.)
