I always like to think that a team should be able to pull out a game despite a few bad calls. But, when the refs spot one team 14 points on terrible calls in a game deciided by 7, it gets tough to think that. When they also don't call blatant holding on every play in the 4th, it gets harder. And when it's uncovered that the head ref has millions of dollars in gambling debts and is under investigation for influencing the outcome of the previous week's game, that's too much for me. I think we got hosed. I'm not going to say any more about it, but that's what I honestly feel.

In a close game it can come down to the little things. But, Tressel always says you can't get to that point and not have some responsibility for the loss. Just look at how crazy the season was last year! We could have one nearly as crazy this year. We could be in a cycle of close games/upsets.

I know. I was in Madison that weekend to visit a friend, we were watching the game, on that play that let the Illi-gay get a first down to end it, Laurenitis was blatently held and it wasn't called. BTW - Does anyone know of any way to get to Urbana from Chicago? I want to head down there for this game

Enough with the refs. We sound like Miami fans.

Illinois ran out the last 8:09 of the game. They made 4 first downs on that drive - and you can't hang all of those on the refs. (And if you are going to hang your hat on a missed holding call throw out every result for the past 100 years.)

We got beat. And even if you buy into the argument that the refs cost us a first down here or a TD there - we were still close enough to getting beat that you just have to take your lumps.

As for this year - you can play that game on the Friday before USC or the Sunday after and we will take care of business.

UIUC's physics website lists a few ways to get to campus. I haven't actually tried any of these, but it's worth a shot. Looks like there is a charter bus and AMTRAK train that go to Urbana.

The refs didn't order Tress to keep the replay flag in his pocket, or tell the guys in the replay booth to go take a whiz. I'm sure Tress didn't think it was that important as to use up his challenge in the first quarter of the game. Bad rule (one challenge) trumps bad call by refs.

While I think the refs cost us the game, why has the timeout Tressel called with 6 minutes to go been overlooked? The Illi-suck were going to punt it on 4th and 1 inch but after the timeout, they went for it, got it and killed the clock

IIRC, Tressel stated that we had twelve men on the field, so if he didn't call the timeout, Illinois would have picked up the first guaranteed. But, he did, and the rest is history...

And it should stay there.

That's the way I remember it. The 12th guy was running off the field as they were about to snap.
