I know I didn't really notice/appreciate all the positive press we got during the season last year until well after it was all over and done with.

All we've heard about all year is how great the Big 12 offenses were.
Colt McCoy is the most accurate QB in the history of organized sport, has more rushing yards than Vince Young.
No other conference in the country can keep up with the Big 12 this year, hands down the best in the nation, not even close.
And most talking heads were on UT's side when they saw how that tiebreaker went down.
This is true to an extent, but the nation did forget about Texas far too much after they lost to Texas Tech, and this cost them the Heisman and BCS votes needed (both wrong, imo).

After watching Texas, I can see how McCoy's completion percentage was so high. He would throw it to a receiver at the line of scrimmage, the other receivers would block their men and the kid with the ball would use his speed to slant for a couple of yards, get hit in the legs and dive for another yard or two. You do this enough times and pretty soon you are in the end zone.
I'm with you. I was hoping to see us do some of this in the game against Texas because I thought our oline would struggle against the Texas dline. Turns out, our line did a pretty good job IMO. I figured we would need to run a lot of two-step drops with quick slants, outs, screens, etc. It definitely worked for Texas and if I recall....didn't Flordia do pretty much the same thing to us in that '06 NC game?

Honestly, one of my favorite plays of the night was the little screen or delayed pass (lob ) over the top Pryor had to Beanie early in the game that went for big yards. Those kind of plays keep teams off balance. No reason this team can't do exactly what you're saying Buckeyefrankmp. I hope we see it next year.

How is that Colt's fault? He led a great drive to win the game.

It's a matter of america's attention span, imo. Bradford did not outplay Colt head to head and didn't distance himself from Colt over the course of the season. But he played his bigger games later, and folks forgot about what the longhorn offense accomplished early on.

Oklahoma also had the luxury of playing Texas Tech at home. Texas played them in Lubbock, where they also beat Oklahoma State, Kansas, and Oklahoma last season.

Out of sight, out of mind for the texas votes.

I was in this camp before the game as well. I was really expecting that with the anticipation of TX strong D line, we'd see a lot of quick passes from TP. Watching Colt develop over the last few years makes me wish even more that we'll run that type of offense next year. Colt throws high percentage passes and allows his receivers to make plays. And he's very much still a future NFL guy running that O. With the talent we have at WR, I'd love to see TP in that role over the next few seasons. Could be a lot of fun.

Personaly, I'm sick of hearing this stuff. I know they have to say it and they probably even mean it but how many missions have we gone on since Jan '07? No more motivational dvd's, no more door lock combinations, quit telling us what you are going to do, just go do it.

Less talkie, more winnie.
The difference to me is that Pryor has the ball in his hands half the game, and he knows he's not good enough yet. I think that's a stark contrast to the same message being parroted by the offensive tackles or defensive leaders. Pryor has an opportunity to take over like Vince Young did in UT's 2005 off-season with his, "anyone that wants to beat Ohio State ..." letter.

I think the result of this Fiesta Bowl could be good in the same manner the 2002 Outback Bowl heart breaker set up the national title run.

It is scary to think what Pryor could become with a full off season to focus on his footwork, mechanics, and film study, as opposed to moving into a protracted basketball season and doing all those other things he did in high school that distracted from his becoming a great passer.

Postgame interview impressions I had: Boone felt vindicated (Orakpo matchup). Pryor was disgusted.

I am not saying that I don't think TP means it or that he won't do great things in his career.

Just commenting on being saturated with the incessant "this time we are really motivated" talk from the outgoing group I guess.

that's fine, I'm just trying to figure out how you're laying this at Terrelle's feet (when he and Todd took the lead), or comparing his comments/attitude to possible lipservice by others.

It's a matter of america's attention span, imo. Bradford did not outplay Colt head to head and didn't distance himself from Colt over the course of the season. But he played his bigger games later, and folks forgot about what the longhorn offense accomplished early on.
and so. how many times has the best player won the heisman? less than half id say in my view.
Oklahoma also had the luxury of playing Texas Tech at home. Texas played them in Lubbock, where they also beat Oklahoma State, Kansas, and Oklahoma last season.
last season, this season, vietnam war era, pre forward pass...
you play your schedule not somebody elses...
Out of sight, out of mind for the texas votes.
true, but whos fault was that?

This is a good transition statement for this program. Boone, representing the past three years, feels vindicated in a LOSS where Pryor, representing the future, is not satisfied with a loss. I don't think Boone had that winning attitude to get us over the top. Hopefully Pryor will take the leadership role on this team and get the rest of the team to not be satisfied with moral victories.

I hear ya. Look on the bright side ... baseball season camps are just six weeks away, so at least you have the distraction of 'this year being the year the Reds focus on playing fundamentally sound baseball' to look forward to, instead of the hollow lip-service from the Buckeyes.
