Reading back through the thread Van Tresse received many of the offers (OSU, Indiana) in May of '06. These came during his Freshman year when he went head to head in practice with Oden at Lawrence North and Speice Indy. The potential growth and development of a 6' 8" Freshman learning from and banging with the best merited the early offers. Websites ranked him as an early top 10 (Rivals #8) in the 2009 class, even though as others note he was not a starter on the LN varsity team. Rivals compared him favorably to Josh Mc Roberts, but last year his performance was hampered by pneumonia. His junior year (2007-8) would certainly be the more accurate indicator if this "early offer potential" was a legit assessment or as CBF 40 said "it doesn't seem the potential is showing up yet." In the fall of 2007 Rivals dropped him to the #20 power forward prospect and #52 overall. Scout ranked him as the #17 Power Forward.
His height and weight have plateaued as seemingly have his point production and rebounding statistics. It does makes one wonder if and how aggressively some early offer schools are pursuing this prospect. Will the potential show up later or has the early potential prediction already peaked? I believe there are many schools who have turned their attention to other prospects. |

Ohio State is actively recruiting him......which in my book is a good indicator of how Matta thinks of Van Treese.

There we go...my question is--what is holding Van Treese back from putting these kind of numbers up consistently?

Van Treese has been contacted by the new Indiana staff. Van Treese wants to keep his options open due to the looming NCAA decision regarding the Indiana program. Van Treese would like to make a decision in the fall. He is still considering Indiana, Notre Dame, Purdue, Ohio State, UCLA, Kansas and Louisville. |

Van Treese has narrowed his list to Indiana, Ohio State, UCLA, Louisville Kansas and Florida on the outside of the top five at this point. Van Treese states that Indiana is equal with the other schools on his list barring any NCAA pentalties in the future. |
