Am I saying that Will Studlien is going to be the next Chris Spielman? No, of course not - I wouldn't saddle any high school kid with that burden. But he does seem to have the same kind of work ethic, desire, and toughness that Spielman possessed, and those qualities can still take a kid a long way even in this era when "workout warriors" are so in vogue. |

Great discussion first off and second, I agree with most of you. I am all for an offer to Studlien and he is the player I would like to see get an offer the most in Ohio at this point. However, we do have the ability to be very selective in who we pick up at this point, seeing as how we are stacked at LB (unless you subscribe to ESPN
). I doubt we get Ferrell but it appears we have a legit shot at Bell. However, I would love to take that "gamer" to go in between Klein and Whiting. I think the LB corps of Carpenter, Hawk, and Schlegel had two measurably gifted guys (Hawk+Carpenter) to go along with a "gamer" in the middle (Schlegel). In any event, I'm more than content with waiting to see how things play out, regardless if Studlien ends up going to Illinois because of it. |

Rivals $

While I follow football recruiting I do not consider myself an expert when it comes to evaluating high school talent through video. I rely on the expertise of those individuals who do that for a living or a hobby.
Having said that, with all due respect to Will, and his love for Ohio State if he is not willing to wait for an offer from the Buckeyes (assuming he has not been told different) there will be a number of prospects both in Ohio and out-of-state who have the same potential as Will. If he is not willing to wait for Ohio State and that has been his lifelong dream, I do not understand why everyone is concerned that he might not end up as a Buckeye. |

I think the love for Studlien was built up when his highlight tape was released... it was impressive, he's a LB from a lower division school, and he's came out and professed his love for OSU..
09 recruiting hadnt hit full tilt yet, so his story and his "legend" got built up.. However, I think if u look at the big picture, it's evident that while Will may have a passion for OSU that others may not, in terms of on field production and potential there are alot of others who can match him or surpass him.. At this point I think OSU should be in no rush to fill the final 1-2 LB slots.. we have two very good ones in Klein and Whiting.. and if staff wants to spend the rest of the yr putting the full court on Dorian Bell and evaluating other players, i have no issue with that Last edited by osugrad21; 02-26-2008 at 06:05 PM. |
