Mistake in this article...no tOSU offer
PalmettoSports June 12, 2008 Marc To Visit In Palmetto State By Phil Kornblut ATH Victor Marc (6-0 205) of Hollywood, FL plans to make visits to USC and Clemson this summer. He hears regularly from USC recruiter Robert Gillespie and Clemson recruiter David Blackwell. "Coach Gillespie and I have a really good relationship," Marc said. "He's a cool coach. And coach Blackwell is a cool coach and basically lets me know it's basically my decision." Marc said he'll trim his list of 17 offers to five by the end of the summer, and he said USC and Clemson will be in the final five. "When nobody knew about me, they showed me the love," he said. Among Marc's ther offers are Central Florida, Ohio State, West Virginia, Boston College, North Carolina, South Florida, Florida, Auburn and Maryland. Marc plays quarterback, receiver and safety and is being recruited as an athlete. |

How is it that these mistakes, where the journalist lists schools that have in fact not offered, seem to so routinely show up in articles? Is it confusion on the journalists' end in that they often mix up which schools have offered and which schools have been in contact (seems to be really sloppy journalism) or what the difference is between "contact" and an actual, written offer? Or is the confusion more often on the kid's side? I've heard kids say they are unsure whether they actually hold an official offer. More dubiously, do kids often embellish or outright lie to journalists about their offer set, and if so, how often do you think that happens? I bring this up here b/c Marc is a kid that has been widely reported as wanting that much coveted OSU offer, but has repeatedly stated to media that he does NOT have one. It just seems like there's little room for confusion if the journalist is at all competent. Either that, or the more dubious stuff is going on (which I doubt w/ Marc). . . . Maybe one or the other just misremembers.

I wonder if this is a kid OSU had on the back burner while they watched how the wind blew with Henton.
An athlete who can move behind center if the need arises would make for a nice utility player. |

Wow, that came out of nowhere.

Wow. Would've pegged him for Clemson if the Bucks didn't come through with an offer. USF is getting a very good athlete. I like his potential at RB the most.

What a pull USF is bringing in all of a sudden! I guess kids actually do like the prospect of playing in Raymond James Stadium (the idea of playing in an NFL stadium separated from main campus by a 30 minute drive doesn't particularly appeal to me). I wondered if an offer wouldn't be forthcoming for Marc with the Henton transfer, so he could act as something of an insurance policy. Any indication of what position USF is planning to use Victor at? The rise of USF, by the way, must worry the Big Three in Florida. There's a lot of talent in Florida, but when you split it 4 ways (not to mention with UCF stealing a few recruits every year, too) it will only go so far.
