I was hoping we would go after Shrive and hopefully we can get in the race. I have to say I'm surprised by this offer as well but good offer imo.

FWIW
The West Scranton, PA QB [Matt McGloin] who won two District 2 Class AAA titles along with Hubie Graham and Eric Shrive has accepted an offer to be a preferred walk-on at Penn State. He has been compared at the H.S. stage by some as a Tyler Palko/Drew Tate type of QB and obviously has an uphill battle to start over Clark & Devlin. Devlin is the states record holder for most passing yards in Pennsylvania H.S. history with 9,000 plus yards at Downington East [AAAA]...he was the #4 rated QB in the nation during the '06 class.
Matt McGloin has been West Scranton's starting QB for three years and has ended his H.S. career with 58 TD passes and 5,485 yards passing. I posted this NOT because this is some amazing revelation or that we are guaranteed to get Eric Shrive because his H.S. QB/teammate walked on at Penn State but because it certainly doesn't hurt Penn State's recruitment of Eric Shrive, having his H.S. QB at Penn State a year prior to him coming out. I look forward to McGloin hosting Shrive if he does indeed make an official visit sometime down the road. I think its very relevant. You also have to consider the friendship between him and Graham as relevant as well and his family growing up ND fans.
It'll be hilarious in a way when he goes to a school totally unconnected to him in any way. ![]() |

A handful of kool-aid drinkers were expecting an ND pledge, but anyone who actually matters in this recruitment knew far from it. Sounds like the visit to ND went well, and that both sides are comfortable with whatever timetable plays out. He's looking pretty steadfast in his plans to explore all of his options. Anybody can get involved here, but they'll have to make a statement to do so.
My take? The kid lives in an "Irish household", and Notre Dame needs offensive tackles in a bad way. ND would have to shoot themselves in the foot not to stay involved with him, but he will give everyone a fair shot. |
