Im thinking maybe Fragle falls into the TE/OT category.. and could be viewed as the 4th Oline we want in this class.. if Watt goes elsewhere.. thus allowing us to pursue the extra TE.. this kid looks like a nice receiving threat, something we havent seen from the TE position in a long time

You mistakenly neglected to list Wisconsin as one of his favorites.

Given the fact that we do a great job of using our TE's (which he mentioned), arguably better than anyone in the nation outside of maybe Missouri (hard to beat Rucker + Coffman), I think we have to be considered a legit player for Hageman.

Other positives for Wisconsin in this situation:

1. He was one of about 2 bona fide OOS Wisconsin prospects who actually came to the Badgers' Spring game. Also attended junior day and a few regular season games.
2. UW is closer to his hometown than anybody but "the U"
3. Depth Chart could be seen as a positive
4. Wisconsin just picked up an excellent throwing QB named Jon Budmayr (had offers from Fat Charlie and Zooker)

Hageman possesses offers from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Florida, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan State, Illinois, and Connecticut. Minnesota, Wisconsin, and OSU are his favorites. The writer says Hageman's decision is a ways away, but his comment paint a different picture.

Have to like Wisconsin's chances here, especially after Fragel committed. But you never know, many top recruits don't seem to be dissuaded by OSU's depth chart lately.

Tight End is one of the few positions we're thin at.

The Gophers don't have even one Minneapolis high school football player on their roster. And it's been a long time since a local high school football player who has been recruited as hard nationally as Ra'Shede Hageman, a 6-5 tight end from Washburn. Hageman has 11 offers, according to GopherIllustrated.com, and he said that he will probably end up looking at Minnesota, Ohio State and Wisconsin.

Based on some of his comments, I tend to think he will want to stay closer to home so I really don't see Florida as a serious threat.

Wisconsin and Minnesota will be though to beat though. Minnesota will be able to sell him on being the face of the new program and in-state loyalty. Wisconsin will be able to sell him as him being able to replace Beckum who will probably be a first round pick. Bernini, what is the rest of the Wiscy depth chart like at TE?

If he doesn't mind going a bit further from home OSU should have a good shot. The Buckeyes have 4 big selling points compared to Minn./Wisc:

1. Chance to play in NC games, vs. USC, national TV all the time.
2. Arguably the best young offensive talent in the country (Pryor, Posey, Adams, Brewster, etc.)
3. Some of the best facilities, trainers, etc. in the country
4. Favorable depth chart. In 2009, Jake Ballard will be a senior. DiLillo and Fragel are the only other guys we will have and neither have Hageman's talent as a pass catcher.

If he came here, I'd be a little surprised if he wasn't starting in 2010. 3 years starting alongside Pryor, Posey, Thomas, Adams, Brewster, Shugarts, Berry and those guys should be attractive if he is willing to go more than a few hours from home.

1. OSU undoubtedly has the edge over Wisconsin in this regard. Minnesota in a landslide. "The U's" chances are slim to none, with none lapping slim around the track. I'd like to think at Wisconsin slim at least beats none by a nose. Wisconsin has had 3 1-loss seasons in their modern era. Avoid those singular losses and Wisconsin was probably playing on the biggest stage. And in none of those seasons did the Badgers have a difference maker at the most important position on the field. Has Wisconsin ever had a difference maker at QB? Current recruits Curt Phillips and Jon Budmayr are the most highly touted quarterbacks Wisconsin has secured in recent memory. They at least give Wisconsin the potential to get over the top, as long as the other positions are on par with past teams. It's all about perception among recruits anyways. Bielema has certainly done a good job at selling the Badgers can/will win an MNC in the very near future. Oglesby, St. Jean, etc.; talked about it as recruits.

2. This is not a separate category to me for OSU. Having a more potent offense lends to winning national championship. Beyond team success, Hageman has to ask himself which offense puts him in the position to have individual success. Travis Beckum's near 1,000 yards each of the last two seasons suggests it'd be Sconnie. Hell, Wisconsin's 2nd TE Garrett Graham blew your top tight end out of the water in terms of production. Ohio State doesn't even have a TE alum currently in the league. Wisconsin has a couple, in a year it will be 3.

Visa vie the prospect of teaming up with Pryor, is that a positive for a tight end? It's debatable. Maybe if he REALLY enjoys blocking as his QB opts to pull it down and run instead of dumping off to his safety valve.

3. That's outrageously subjective. I've never heard anything but positivity about UW's trainers, facilities, etc. I guess it depends on where you've visited personally, the focus of the sports articles you read, and your ability to assume a less biased perspective than the next guy.

4. Graham will be a senior. Kendricks will be a junior. Beyond that I don't see another tight end who has a realistic chance to be favored over Hageman.

Year 1: Redshirt/3rd TE
Year 2: 2nd TE (Wisconsin uses two TE's regularly)
Year 3: #1
Year 4: #1
Year 5: #1/NFL

Depth chart at Wisconsin bodes well for Hageman.

True but we just invested $20 mil in ours and they're not even quite a year old yet. I doubt you're going to find any better than ours.

Of the 32 Wisconsin alumni listed on NFL rosters, the "couple" TE's that Wisconsin has are Owen Daniels (Texans), Jason Pociask (Jets) but Pociask was inactive (DNP) in 12 of the Jets 16 games and contributed 1 catch in the remaining 4 games.
Jm2cw but the NFL opportunity factor for Hageman is not as clear cut as it is made to seem.

I'm inclined to think that Wisconsin has an advantage in the TE department right now. Bielema has shown a willingness to use athletic TEs as pass catchers, to a much greater degree than Tressel has.

On the other hand, OSU has world class facilities and consistently plays in BCS games and against major OOC opponents, and puts loads of players in the NFL.
