I love his film...I like Spiker at DT personally. He has great athleticism and a very explosive first step. You can see it on defense but it's even more aparent when he is pulling. Great motor and tenacity. He is physically dominant...what kind of competition does he play? He plays to high and relies on his strength too much but you can tell he has some nice tools to work with. I coach in this league, and the competition he plays against in the league is terrible (comparitively speaking to other recruits) This was the first year in a long time there was any DI talent in the league. His teammate Adam Bice went to Akron along with Joe Pachuta from John Glenn (who was teammates with Aaron Bates--Punter for MSU) Most kids play DIII in the OAC. The kids he is destroying dont weigh 180 lbs, for the most part. An average interior player in this league would be lucky to go 6'0 220 lbs. The final 3 games he played last year were against good team--Lake (his team was destroyed 42-0 in the rain and mud--TV runs the spread) Logan and Louisville. I am not sure how he did against these teams individually.

I will say this. He passes the look test, can move, explosive, athletic, great tenacity, etc. It will come down to camp.

I think he was much better than Bice, mostly b/c of his size. I would say he is every bit of 6'4"-6'5".

I hope he overcomes the level of comp thing b/c he is a great kid deserves any and all recoginition he gets.

Must of been Spicer.

It would make Diddy sleep better if 4 or 5 in-state OL garnered offers.

I saw where Watt received his ND Offer today. I don't share the confidence of some that he will follow Goebel here.

Not to hijack Ryan's thread, but He, Turner, and Wood were the 3 guys that I saw that were sitting in the same section as Pryor, Brewster, Adams, Stoney, and Shugarts...Also know that Toussaint was there, but I never saw him, and not sure where the rest of the juniors were sitting, because there were 3 full buses of juniors and parents that dropped them off at the schott for the game...

DRESDEN - Tri-Valley's Ryan Spiker played in the shadow of All-Ohio teammate Adam Bice last season, when the Scotties rolled into the Division II Region 7 semifinals.

If recent weeks are any indication, he'll soon be leaving his own impressive legacy.

Spiker, a 6-4, 295-pound two-way lineman, recently received Division I scholarship offers from West Virginia and Indiana, and visited Ohio State for its junior day last weekend.

Scotties' coach Justin Buttermore said Spiker has also drawn interest from other BCS programs, including Notre Dame and South Carolina.
It has been a whirlwind three weeks for the junior, who wasn't sure what his college plans would be before the recent turn of events.

"We're getting a lot of stuff at once," Spiker said. "Because of NCAA rules they can't call me which is probably a good thing. I'd be getting 1,000 calls a day."

Like many recruits around Ohio, Spiker would love an offer from Ohio State, "because obviously it would be great to be able to go there. I think every kid in Ohio wants to play there."

But Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel told Spiker and other line recruits that they will be competing for scholarship offers. He met Tressel and spent time with incoming freshmen Mike Adams and Michael Brewster, both blue chip line recruits already enrolled at OSU.

"There are five other guys and only three scholarships," Spiker said. "A lot will depend on what happens at their summer camp. We're already working hard to get ready for next year."

Buttermore said it's a common theme with big-time programs.

"(OSU) obviously has a lot more people they can offer being Ohio State," Buttermore said. "That will be something that happens late (in the process) if it happens."

So can anyone give an educated guess on who the 5 guys are that are competing for the 3 spots? Do the 3 spots include Mewhort? Thanks in advance for any responses.

Yes.

As for the 5 guys, Watt and Hall are definitely among them with maybe Shrive and Freeman. I can't think of who the 5th might be.

So gotta assume that we will be looking to 4 with us losing 5 this year...

So I would also assume not counting Mewhort in that group...

The 5 guys I would assume are Hall, Watt, Nixon, Shrive, and ???

I believe we are in good shape with Hall and Watt, and it will be the 4th spot that we might push for the latter two Nixon and Shrive and if they don't get one of them they will have a long line to evaluate at camp...

USC Checking On Ohio Lineman

USC is interested in OL Ryan Spiker (6-4 290) of Dresden, OH and has contacted his coach for more information according to Spiker. He has offers from West Virginia and Indiana while Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michgian State, Purdue, Akron, Bowling Green, Boston College and Cincinnati also are showing interest. Spiker has visited Ohio State and Indiana and is going to West Virginia for a spring practice March 15th. He plans to camp at Ohio State in June. He does not have a favorite. Spiker plays offensive guard and on the defensive line. "I pull and trap people well," he said. "My run and pass blocking are about the same." Spiker said he squats 450 pounds. benches 285 and power cleans 300.

What I meant was in terms of their being 3 schollies left...I would say that group doesn't include Mewhort, because they are already counting him as in, as he has already committed...
