Wisconsin refrained from offering as a result of some academic issues. Doesn't OSU have similarly high standards now in response to the past Clarrett, Katzenmoyer, et. al; situations? So that would be another potential obstacle in the way of Dixon being a legit OSU prospect.

Clarett wasn't a bad student coming out of high school. I have no idea if Katzenmoyer was either. But to answer your question, yes we have high standards. They can be adjusted if a recruit shows progress in his academics and meets the NCAA standards but generally we don't mess with kids with poor grades.

And it doesn't hurt if the recruit is can't miss on the field. Wasn't Chris Wells borderline academically? Not that I'd be getting self righteous as a Wisconsin fan. John Clay was also.

I agree about Dixon being an impressive looking player, but he isn't near on their levels.

He can go to an SEC school and be one of the billion players they over-sign then lose as a non-qualifier. I hope that doesn't happen because he seems like a very nice kid.

I had English with Clarett freshman year, and had the privilege of editing one of his papers. There is no way he got a qualifying score on the ACT without something fishy going on.

I assume you're talking about his freshman year in college. I said coming out of high school he wasn't known as a poor student.

Hallandale, which has undergone a dramatic turnaround under Jones, including a 10-2 season a year ago, has plenty of other schools interested in many more of its players. None more, perhaps, than 2009 cornerback and fellow Krop transfer Ricardo Dixon. Jones said the 6-foot, 175-pound junior has 17 offers. Florida State, South Florida, UCF, Tennessee and West Virginia are among the leaders for Dixon, who was timed by Jones' staff with 4.39 speed in the 40. But Dixon said he'd love it if his dream school -- the University of Miami -- gave him a call.

''I really grew up a UM fan,'' Dixon said Monday. ``I admired Sean Taylor and Devin Hester a lot and I really like the Canes. But I haven't heard from them yet.''

DB Ricardo Dixon (6-0 175) of Hallandale, FL has USC among his top four, and he and his parents will visit the school this weekend. "I really like USC," he said. "I talked to coach Gillespie. He said he was really impressed with how I played in the spring game. I had four passes broken up and two tackles. And I locked down their star receiver." Also in Dixon's top four are South Florida, Florida State and Ole Miss. He also has offers from Clemson, North Carolina, Auburn, Tennessee, NC State, West Virginia and Central Florida. Dixon plans to set one of his official visits with USC. Last season he had 52 tackles with one interception. And he returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.
