Defensive backs stand out this season in the high school football-talent pool.

Three of the top five prospects in Broward County are defensive backs. In Palm Beach County, there are two top defensive backs and a sleeper prospect to keep your eyes on.

Broward's contingent is led by Plantation's Brandon McGee, who projects as a cornerback at the next level after starting as a quarterback in high school.

McGee has more than 30 scholarship offers from schools such as Miami, Florida, Florida State, Ohio State, LSU and USC.

McGee (6 feet, 185 pounds) has elite speed, running a 10.49 in the 100-meter dash.

Most schools are recruiting him as a cornerback and if he can adjust to the position, he can be one of the best in the country.

McGee has visited Miami's campus a number of times during the recruiting process and is well aware of the Hurricanes' need at cornerback.

"I know Miami is very thin at corner and I am very aware of their situation there," McGee said. "The depth charts are definitely something that interests me in the recruiting process."

I was under the impression that McGee was going to wait until later on in the process to announce his decision. I wonder if Mcgee decided to move his decision up in order to get a spot in our class. Is it wrong to assume that Miami is the leader in this race?

The problem is I have a hard time seeing more than two JRs declaring. Even without Clifford, we are at 85. If two players declare, that would be two additional spots. Hall is one. I have a hard time seeing them take the 7th defensive back rather than wait on a guy like Adams, Berry, Hageman, or even Martinez.

Berry is in regardless so to insinuate that McGee might be taking his spot is false. And the idea of two juniors leaving early and/or others leaving the program is not that far fetched. And lastly McGee is not solely being looked at as a DB...he could play any number of positions and could wind up like a Chris Gamble...and that is not something I just throw around, because lots of a kids talk about wanting to play on both sides of the ball but how often does it ever happen? I say that because Brandon is that special of a talent and one that I think you take in this class any way you can and worry about the other spots later.

Im at the U right now, and see the summer workouts for the fball players in a big field right behind where I am. Actually several fball players were in a Dance class at their wellness center. It was kinda funny seeing those big guys do that stuff. If I see Berry Ill give him directions to the WHAC!!



Maybe hes coming here to tell the coaches he wants to be a Buckeye!!
