Of course he's never played against a Big10 team either.

It was a good answer though. Showed respect for the Bucks(even though things didn't work out for him) and PSU but no mention of michigan.

I agree Cicinnatibuck. He really hasn't experienced Big 12 football yet. A little quick to be comparing conferences. Wait til OU comes to Lawrence Oct 24th or when KU travels to Austin Nov 21st. I just moved from C-bus to Lawrence, KS. Bradley has been in big 12 country about a month longer than I have. B/c he's a Dublin Coffman kid, I've been following his progress through his freshman year @ KU pretty closely. When you go from "The Shoe" (106,000) to "Memorial Stadium" (52,000), you have to find something to latch onto.

As you can see, I'm still struggling being 11 hours away from my Buckeyes. I'm hoping season KU basketball tix will fill the void in the winter.

I saw him in action this weekend @ my first KU game. Looked solid with the ball in his hands. Impressive for a 3-star true freshman. KU runs a lot of 4-wide sets. They exploited USM's soft zone and hit a lot of quick 3-step flat passes and WR screens. 5-8 yds chunks after the catch every play the entire second half.

He is currently tied for 2nd on the team w/ 18 receptions w/ Dezmon Briscoe (one of the better "Big" receivers in the big 12) and behind Kerry Meier (big play slot receiver w/ good speed).

They have a bunch of solid receivers @ KU. It looks as if he's solidified himself in that top 4-wide rotation. I'll be sure to track his KU career and see how he continues to develop.

I might be in Kansas Dorothy, But I'll always be A BUCKEYE

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Charlie Riedel | Associated Press
Bradley McDougald, a freshman from Dublin Scioto, has caught 18 passes for 180 yards for 4-0 Kansas.

Bradley McDougald had a lot to think about when he embarked on a 10-hour drive by himself from his home in Dublin to the University of Kansas, where he would be a freshman receiver.

It was June 6, and he looked at it as the first day of the rest of his life.

"I left about midnight and drove to Missouri to spend the night in a motel," McDougald said. "I finished the drive off the next day. I was driving to a whole new start. I was going away from family. I had all my stuff packed into that car. There was a lot to think about. I was a little nervous and really anxious."

When he got to Lawrence, Kan., father Anthony Hairston was waiting to help him unpack. Hairston got there by airplane.

After that, McDougald, 18, was on his own for the first time.

"I just went after it starting with the strength and conditioning program," he said. "I ran and lifted heavy. I came in at 186 pounds and now I'm 199, 200 pounds. I took what I learned from high school and listened a lot once I got here. I was aggressive."

It was obvious to coach Mark Mangino that McDougald wasn't redshirt material. In fact, he was going to play a lot.

"I have not really had a true freshman come in and do what he can do since I've been here," Mangino said. "He understands what we're trying to do and how we're trying to do it."

Ohio State offered McDougald a scholarship before his senior year at Dublin Scioto, but took it off the table after he was suspended for three games for violating unspecified school rules. He was an honor-roll student in high school.

"I was understanding about what Ohio State did because I was the one who messed up," McDougald said. "I had to live with it and be a man about it. Coach (Jim) Tressel gave me great words of advice. I wish Ohio State nothing but the best.

"After that, I asked myself what I wanted to do and what was best for me. I wanted to make an impact, and that was to play offense. Ohio State wanted me as a safety. I looked at the best offensive schemes and where I could fit in. I told my friends they had better turn on the TV because I was going to Kansas. I made a great decision."

McDougald switching from offense to defense
Associated Press
Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Life and football practice would be simpler for Bradley McDougald if the only he weren't so gifted.

First the Kansas freshman works with the offense. Then he catches his breath and dashes across the field to work with the defense.

Then he does it all over again. And that's just on the field. There are also intensive learning sessions in meetings with both the offense and defense.

Like talented Jayhawks defensive backs before him, McDougald has been asked to play both ways; to catch passes on one series of downs and then keep enemy receivers away from the ball on another. For the No. 24 Jayhawks on Saturday against No. 25 Oklahoma, he figures he'll be about 25 percent safety and 75 percent wide receiver.

But he'll be wherever coach Mark Mangino figures he's needed most.

"I wouldn't say it's as tiring as it sounds," McDougald said. "Coach makes sure I get a break and get in and out. But there's a lot of guys working out there play-in and play-out. There's other guys doing just as much work as I am."

It's more than slightly ironic that McDougald's switching from wide receiver to safety the past couple of weeks is part of a sizable midseason defensive overhaul for the Jayhawks. An Ohio native, McDougald first committed to Ohio State. But he de-committed when coach Jim Tressel told him he would be a safety for the Buckeyes and not wide receiver.
