Not sure on competition or what not, but from the looks of his tape I see a top 75 type player...

He has very good speed, and I can see what the Illinois guys see in him...I would need to know some more in terms of compeition and what not and I might think about putting him up in the 5 star talk...

I think that he and Fields are very similar type players, and I think Jackson is as well, but Jackson seems to have more speed then all of them...

Some other guys who would be in the "team picture":

Cameron Gordon
Dion Sims (although some consider him a lock to end up at TE)
James Jackson (as The Man said...probably the top WR in the Midwest)
Bryan Underwood (I'd put his offer list up against Hawthorne's)
Perez Ashford
Keenan Davis
Patrick White
I know you were kidding wad but I think they are the 2 best. I already thought Appleton was the best but I had never seen Hawthorne. Only heard of him, and the opinion was that he was a better FS than WR. Well if that's true he must be 1 heck of a S if he's better there than at WR. I think he and Hawthorne are the 2 best in the Midwest. That's JMO though. You'll get to see them in Ohio (Herby Classic) this year so maybe you can give your opinion. I think they also have a game on ESPN this year. Their team features not only Appleton and Hawthorne, but 2010 QB Wray (Can't spell his 1st name) and 2011 STUD Vincent Afterbridge, among others. Kraig is about where he should be ranked, Terry should be WAY higher IMO. He is a 5 star talent IMO. Some may not see it now but you'll see a lot more from Terry in the future.

BTW, I STILL want Fields in O&B very badly thank you.

EDIT: To the Buckeye poster above me, the competition is pretty good. They also went deep into the playoffs (A game away from state). Hawthorne has sub 4.4 type of speed.

I certainly look forward to getting a good look at both of them...I plead a bit of ignorance since I am going mostly off of Rivals/Scout/other film when it comes to the Illinois kids...

Put me in the camp with CB40, who believes that Terry Hawthorne is a special prospect. He's not really a blazer, but his 10-15 yard quick bursts are amongst the better I've seen. He has the shiftiness of a running back. He's fantastic at running routes, using his shoulders to fake out his opponents (one of the cornerbacks he fools is a Badger fan named TheFresher over at RP). But the most impressive aspect for me was his ability to make adjustments on balls in the air. Those over the shoulder catches were Willie Mays-esque.

By the way, the poster over at RP said he played both Hawthorne and Appleton, and thought Appleton was significantly better, FWIW. I think they are both top flite talents.

East St. Louis is THE dominant team in their conference. Only one team (Alton) ever challenges them.

The talent in downstate Illinois generally isnt as good as the Chicagoland area (i.e. this year Normal Community was thought to be one of the best, if not the best, downstate teams and got solidly smashed by Joliet Catholic, the eventual state champion).

My high school team played Alton in the 2006 playoffs (thats a 5 hour drive for my school). They were something like 8-1 with their only loss to East St. Louis. My school was like 5-4 and from the same conference as annual powerhouses Joliet Catholic and Carmel (which is a different school from the other powerhouse Mt. Carmel). My school won 42-14 i do believe. It was an utter blowout.

Whose spot do they take tho...

Appleton takes Jackson or Carters...

Hawthorne takes McGee's???

Don't get me wrong I like both players, and I like Appleton over Carter, and maybe Jackson, need to see more film, that one would be easier to swallow than the Hawthorne over McGee...

BTW I always thought these two didn't want to play together...that was what I read on Illini boards early in the process...

Should be interesting to hear what the Illini contingent have to say about this one...

Also have to assume that Bill is talking about Watt as them two joining another highly rated player from the state of Illinois...
