From the UNC site. Moses' coach says Morgan will not decide on signing day, as he is still trying to set up a visit with Ohio State.
That sure is a good sign!

He and Hall looked pretty darn good together in the AAA game.

Would it be such a no-no for the program, to bring Morgan in for a visit, try to wow him on OSU, and then work out the particulars( whether they be enrollment, prep school, or Columbus State), for getting him into a Buckeye uniform?

Question

If it would be done, why not with a player who so obviously wants to be a Buckeye (not to mention so physically unique)... may become a necessary evil in the future with Dick Rod raiding JuCos from coast to coast as scUM academic elitist alums pull their hair out and roll over in their graves.

As someone who has worked for OSU admissions dept in the past I would really like to know what the admissions requirements are at the football programs of UVA and UNC are. As a general rule any student accepted at UVA is going to be accepted at OSU and I would think the majority of UNC students stand a good chance, too.

I also have it from a biased source that the UVA football program doesn't take people with school qualification issues...but I take her word lightly.

You can take her at her word on this one. From the UVA perspective, one thing that many UVA fans are peeved about is the admissions' office unwillingness to take just any kid that has qualified academically from the NCAA's perspective. There are a few instances of recruits being turned away or, more commonly, players already on the team dropping out academically and being snapped up by other programs. Jeffrey Fitzgerald couldn't stay qualified academically but transferred to K-State with zero problems. Just like any school, the academics requirements are loosened considerably for football players, but they're still more stringent than most.

I don't think Moses "so obviously wants to be a Buckeye" as one put it, as much as this is just a further sign of the extreme due diligence he's been doing throughout this process. I don't think he's been to Columbus yet (which would contradict one of the points in the Coyer thread about no offers without some kind of visit first unless Moses was up for a camp or junior day or something.) He's visited tons of places - was in Knoxville last weekend even though his Tennessee recruiter was Latrell Scott - who is now at UVA.

I should restate what I meant b/c it did not come out right. When I wrote "UVA football program doesn't take people with school qualification issues" I was wondering about the school imposed qualifications for athletes, not the school qualifications for the everyday student. As you stated UVA like every school loosens things for athletes (at least in sports such as football) whereas she maintains that they don't and haven't, which is why I take her opinion loosely.

Where I am ultimately going with this is we all know OSU is doing a good job of raising its admissions standards for both that of its general population and its athletes (most notably football); and most importantly to the issue of recruiting OSU admission standards are higher than NCAA standards. I am greatful for the job that both JT and our school have done to try to raise the academic profile of our recruits. Thus I am interested in knowing more about the standards that UVA and UNC (particuarly UVA) might have for its recruits which are above NCAA standards. Are these higher standards test scores and/or class rank? Do they have a class ranking requirement? I agree with you and I know that UVA's standards are higher than that of the NCAA, I am just looking for specifics while still knowing that every school has made at least one exception at some point.

Well, I certainly don't claim to be any kind of expert on UVA, but I do know that they took a chance on Olu Hall back in 2004:

Quote:
Olu Hall (Virginia) - Leading up to NLOID 2004, Hall's final two teams were Virginia and Ohio State. At the eleventh hour, he opted for his home state school and signed with the Cavaliers. However, Olu had some academic issues, and he was forced to take a year at Hargrave Military Academy before re-signing with UVa the next year. As a true freshman in 2005, Hall saw very limited action at outside linebacker (94 plays), and he assisted on only one tackle. It's still early for Hall, but to date he's hardly made a four-star impact at the college level. Update July 2008: After being declared academically ineligible for both the 2006 and 2007 seasons, Olu Hall left Virginia for the greener pastures (and easier classrooms) of Kansas State. Wildcat fans are expecting big things from Olu in 2008 ... if he can ever see the field. Zero stars.
Where Are They Now?

I imagine that almost every school takes a chance on a kid once in a while.

The Buckeyes won't invite Moses for an official visit until he can make it through admissions. Hence, no "official offer", so I am changing the thread title to "verbal offer".

We do that quite a bit actually - send guys off to prep school for a year. I don't think most schools do that, at least not as frequently. Seems like we have someone like that in almost every class. Sometimes it works out (Ras-I Dowling) and sometimes it doesn't (Olu Hall.)

I don't know exactly what they are. We just had a decommit this month (Alex Owah) who claimed he was decommitting because he didn't have a core class that UVA wanted, though he was NCAA-qualified. I don't know how true this is because other reports said he wasn't in fact qualified. I suspect it's mostly grades and test scores. WR Bobby Smith just committed to UVA - he was going to have to prep until his fall transcript made its way to admissions - now he'll join the team this year.

Anyway, here is a Rivals link - not sure if this is $ or not....

http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com...id=880&style=2

Announcement is on Wednesday at 1 and supposedly either UVA or UNC.

Coyer did not have a offer. If he visited he would have gotten an offer...

Moses needs to be allowed to visit, and if he does...OSU would shoot to the top of his list.....

If he is willing to wait past signing day to get his school work in line so he can visit...that tells me he wants to be a Buckeye badly

You missed the point about Coyer. Somebody mentioned, in reference to Coyer, that Tressel's policy was to not offer without a visit of some kind, and I pointed out that I don't think Moses has been to Columbus, yet he had at least a verbal offer.

I don't know what makes you think OSU would suddenly shoot to the top of his list, except for blind faith that he couldn't possibly not fall in love the moment he set foot on campus. Moses would play much earlier at UVA than at OSU - something he's expressed the desire to do. His parents would get to see him play every game at UVA, something they've expressed the desire to do. And dare I say it, Al Groh has a much better track record at sending OL to the NFL than does Tressel - something that's surely on Moses' mind as well.

Lastly, you were in such a hurry to refute my first post that you missed my second. He will not be waiting til after NLOID. The announcement comes Wednesday at 1. With no room for a visit any more, it's basically down to UNC and UVA.....and I have a very good feeling about this one.

I don't know what makes you think OSU would suddenly shoot to the top of his list, except for blind faith that he couldn't possibly not fall in love the moment he set foot on campus.
Have you followed any of Moses' feelings about OSU besides what you've read here? Or are you making a strong argument without any insight there?

I've followed "Moses' recruiting in general", not "Moses and Ohio State." He's mentioned wanting to take a visit there for a while, which is pretty significant by his standards, but never (to my knowledge) has he indicated OSU as the leader. OSU can't top UVA in the three factors I mentioned, so, other than the tendency of recruits to speak very highly of the place they were just in, what about an OSU visit would put OSU automatically at the top?
