Okay, I know little of Navy outside of the fact they beat NoD for the first time since LBJ (I think) was in office two years ago and nearly did it again last year.


They're traditionally a heavily run based offense though this years QB can supposedly keep defenses honest with his arm. I don't like playing teams with a gimmick offense, but with the way our DL played in the Fiesta Bowl, I think we can handle them. But...I'm not so confident it'll be pretty. A lot will depend on how much TP has developed. If he's come as far as some reports say he has throwing the ball, this offense has the potential to be one of the better we've seen in a while. Here's what I'll be watching with great interest as we kick off the season:

• TP's development as a passer.
• The running game. We know what TP can do with his legs, but last year he appeared hesitant at times to just tuck it and run. I'm hopeful that an offense more tailored to his abilities will rectify that. I'm very confident that Boom can get the job done, but I'm maybe even more intrigued in seeing a (finally) healthy Saine as well as what Jaamal Berry can do. Jordan Hall has also been recieving rave reviews from practices with some even calling him the "surprise" of camp. Initially he was thought of as a sure RS, but he may find his way into the rotation and he has a built in chemistry with TP.
• The WRs. I'm hoping that Posey has a breakout year and think he will. Will TWash put it together in the game? Will Ray-Ray have a breakout season as well?
• The "Flex-TE". Will they actually utilize Stoneburner's considerable skills and exploit potential mismatches?
• The OL. Will all that talent translate to game time production? Will Boren's nastiness be contagious? Who lines up where?
• The DL. Will they continue last season's improvement? Can Gibson become Vern v2.0?
• How will out CB's do? Navy may not be the real test, but if the DL is containing the run, they may have to go to the air more than they're accustomed to.
• The return game. It's been a bit of a weakness since Teddy left, but there are a lot of guys who, on paper, look like they could get the job done.

I think that the offense will be miles ahead of last year and that this will not be a close game.

Posters here cast aspersions on Notre Dame every year for scheduling the service academies. Navy is the best of them, but they will not be good enough.

agreed....but with the way Tressel likes to go vanilla in a game before a Game, I like that we won't be showing much of our real defense.

I think we can handle them. But...I'm not so confident it'll be pretty.

agreed on this as well. we'll win....and it probably won't be close as in "oh crap we might lose", but there will be some things we do that will result in FGs instead of TDs and the MoV will be smaller than it should be.

I hope that all 105,000 people are on their feet and making those brave kids feel welcome in the Shoe.

Honestly brings tears to my eyes when I think of what some of those kids will be facing this time next year.

I hurl insults, barbs, jibes, bricks, rocks, bottles, pretty much anything I can get my hands on at ND but I'm not sure I ever cast an aspersion. I'm not sure that I've ever even had an aspersion. I might be an aspersion virgin and not know what the hell I've been missing all this time.

- Kathie Doyle's phone kept ring ing. Her son, Bobby, was preparing to sign over the next seven years of his life, and he was hesitating.
At the Naval Academy, the first two years of life as a Midshipman are something of a trial period. If, after two years of free schooling, military life isn't to your liking, you can leave. But before they become juniors, all Midshipmen sign their two-and-seven papers, the pledge that two more years of a free education will be repaid with at least five years of service in the Navy upon graduation.
If a dream of military service wasn't what brought you to the Academy in the first place, the decision can be daunting. While there are sons and grandsons of veterans among the 179 players on the Navy football roster, or boys who watched air shows as kids and longed to be a pilots, or those drawn by the duty of serving their country, there are plenty of others who just love football.
They love football so much, they'll change their lives for it.
"Their dream to play Division I football overrides everything else," said Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo.
These are the players who will walk into Ohio Stadium to face Ohio State in 12 days, football players who in their actions have proven their love for the game as much as anyone could. Plenty of Ohioans love football. Few risk combat to play it.

As a lifelong buckeye fan (been going to games since I was 6) and a Naval Academy grad, this game is a dream come true for me. I'm driving the 11 hours from my current duty station to make sure to watch my two favorite teams play (my tailgating tent will be the one that has a roof that is 1/2 USNA and 1/2 OSU). Reading this forum has reinforced what I knew about BP and OSU fans in general (at least most of us). Still deciding what to wear (OSU, Navy, Uniform...) but can't wait to be there on the 5th!

After 4 years of going to Navy games all over the country (when I was a student) I highly encourage all the cheering you can muster! Keep up the great attitude and go Bucks! (and Navy!)
