They won't burn Guiton's redshirt. If they want to play a third QB, they should give the Siems kid a shot...he did pretty good in the spring game and is actually probably the third-stringer in the coaches' eyes anyways (because of their wanting to save Guiton's redshirt).

I think it's safe to rule out Oltorik - he hasn't been with the football team this fall.

@greenville: You schedule it because you don't know until very late in the process when the Big Ten has placed your bye week, and you then need to find a school that has the same bye week and is willing to travel to Columbus. Generally, such a school will be looking for the payday, which means that it's going to be more often than not a lower-tier mid-major. Thus you end up with games like Louisiana Tech, Wyoming, NMSU, etc. It's not ideal, but when you'd rather have a game than a bye, you take what you can get. New Mexico State is what we got.

That's the logic. Credit the AD with not scheduling a 1AA, at least.

scUM had to schedule Delaware St prior to their State Penn matchup... it's just the way it goes.... and at least we could see it as prep work for State Penn. Good for timing with the QB and WRs and with working toward winning performances at each position. Not many of those have happened on offense.

I'm guessing he means the stadium would be empty during a bye week, so scheduling a game, regardless of the opponent, is a good idea.

No, and that brings me back to the point that Bob Yo Quiero Taco Bell Griese was missing on Saturday when he was repeatedly lambasting the Ohio State fan base. I don't disagree with calling out the nuts, bandwagon fans, phony toughs, and asshats, don't get me wrong. But what he failed to understand is that a passionate fan base is a very good thing, because yes, people get overheated, frustrated (sometimes rightfully so), and some go over the edge, but the fans don't bail on the program and the stadium is ALWAYS full. Record, game, score, opponent, none of it matters...as long as there are tickets, someone will buy them. Contrast that with his alma mater, who had a half empty stadium when we played there and a 3/4 empty stadium (or so it looked) as they beat Illinois last weekend. We're 5-2 and playing a team half the fans have never heard of? No one cares, people still buy their tickets, still tailgate, and still go...THAT is a good thing.

Agreed. A passionate fan base is one of the many elements that makes tOSU football great.

Unfortunately, too many of our Big 10 brethren don't have the luxury of widespread support. This is one of several reasons why competing with the SEC (from top to bottom) is challenging for the Big 10.

As football fans, we Buckeyes are truly blessed.

I was glad that Chris Spielman put things into proper perspective during the game when he said that "Jim Tressel is the best thing to happen to tOSU football since Woody Hayes." Citing the 3 NC appearances, a national championship, five Big 10 titles, and a 7-1 record against tsun, the evidence is irrefutable.
