Kentucky is the team to worry about here with Golden in my opinion.
As far as other notable PG's in 2010 that OSU may have an interest in.
Taran Buie from NY and I wouldn't count out Juwan Staten a UD commitment especially if Payne gives OSU a verbal.

2010 point guard rescinds commitment

Coach Thad Matta fell in love with Trae Golden?s game after seeing him play last year, and the love translated into a commitment from the Powder Springs, Ga., point guard in October, after he visited the Ohio State campus and attended a football game with fellow 2010 recruits who also had committed.
This past spring, though, rumblings that Golden is not Matta?s prototype point -- think Mike Conley Jr. -- began surfacing. Golden was said to be more of a scoring point, a la Brent Darby or Jamar Butler. He wasn?t even the primary setup man on his AAU team.
Golden must have heard the whispers, or at least heard that Matta was pursuing another 2010 point prospect, because he told Rivals.com today he has rescinded his commitment to the Buckeyes and reopened his recruitment.
?I talked it over with my parents and thought that maybe I rushed into it. I maybe made my decision a little too early. I think maybe I didn't make it for the right reasons,? Golden, whose father is an Ohio State graduate, told Rivals.

After reading the BN article and his mom's words, I came away disappointed. She spoked about how his ranking dropped and that he wasn't rated at the same position since he committed. IMO, it shouldn't matter what rank you come in at, or how heralded you are during your junior and senior seasons. All that will matter is how you play ball on the court, THAT will be your legacy. You can throw the magazines out the window, because those don't mean jack when you lace up and have the rock in your hand, playing against the best collegiate programs in the nation.

That said, I hope this guy comes back to OSU. I know its hard to chose a college and be 100% sure, but he shouldn't be worried. He will get great coaching and great opportunities here. Also, if he is taking his recruiting as a business approach, then him and his family should know that so is our coaching staff, and his decommitment is the reason why we are still going after other kids at his position.

There were rumors about this for awhile...Didn't really think anything would come about from it...

Really not sure how interested Trae still is...I am sure they will try and get a feel about him, and see where they might be with him...

Could see the class ending up with Johnson/Sibert/Wright/Thomas/Sulllinger/Payne...

I haven't been following B-ball recruiting very closely but it seems Matta's recruiting mo has slowed down quite a bit. A lot of negative attention surrounding the program(APR, high school coach blasting Matta, great assistant leaving, coming off an NIT season). Hope things pick up again soon.

He is doing just fine...It is just a matter of actually having some kids that are waiting to make decisions now, and 09 being a down year for kids that are really interested in us...

It should pick up some now that we have one spot left for 09', probably 2 for 10' and then 11' should be a good year for some big time players...

I wouldn't necessarily say its all Matta's fault. More and more kids are wanting to NBA superstars in the next few days, rather than focusing on their next steps. For instance, after hearing Golden's mom, she sounds more concerned with her son's rating and how the scouts will look at him, rather than focusing on a collegiate foundation and a great education. Since the final years of Butler, Stockman, and Dials, recruits have changed. In the past 2 years, we have seen 4 players go "One-and-Done" at OSU with future prospects seeming to do the same. You can't put that on Matta. The players just need to focus on high school and play ball. Enjoy their young lives of being a teenager, then focus on the next step - college. Quit being 15 and thinking about the NBA - This is where parental guidance and a great HS BBall coach comes in.

Well, let's get with the program. You know that Ohio State is more than just a football school. We have a pretty good basketball program with a solid head coach and everything will be fine with our recruiting even without Coach Groce.

It is also possible that Golden committed a little too soon and maybe just wants to look around a little. It is highly possible that he might recommit to the Buckeyes.

He is not turning into my favorite recruit...Don't get me wrong I am not dogging the kid, I would be happy to have him, like his game, his ability to score...I have mentioned at times I think he needs some work to become a pg and not a combo guard, more slanted towards SG...

But some of the comments after the decommit...The talk about ranking, recruiting love, recruiting others...Not things I really like hearing from a recruit, no matter who it is...

Well I Have confidence that Thad will find a replacement would love to have him if he decides to be a buckeye in the end (if he still has a choice) but if not we WILL move on and be fine without him. Good luck Trae Wherever you may play at the collegiate level.
