I think it is documented fairly well how things unfolded. The visit with Spoon on the same day some what supported the fact that OSU was ready to part ways. Cam also said that he wasn't recieving phone calls anymore, and he had to initate visits once Groce was gone. As I've said, don't make offers without conditions that you can't be man enough to stand behind. We all love Thad and our Buckeyes, but on this case, I don't think OSU handled things the right way. Thad could have been proactive and told Cam that he didn't feel he would fit in to their plans anymore and maybe he should explore other avenues.... months ago. It's a case where parties had to read actions instead of having a talk... which isn't the best way to end a relationship.

I think the analogy to a guy wanting his g/f to break up with HIM is spot on. They gave him the cold shoulder hoping he'd get the message and eventually he did. That isn't how I want my coaching staff BEHAVING. It appears Groce went out on a libm for Golden and Wright and Thad eventually didn't agree or follow through in a professional or above-board manner. The whole staff must be 100% behind each early offer or it can fall apart like this. BAD FORM!!

However let us also remember that we have only heard one side of the story because the coaching staff and certainly can't tell their side from beginning to end.

This is a very tough situation for a very good kid..........but...........lets be honest, it is a business...........I am certain that we do not have all of the details, so I will not judge either side........yes it looks bad for Ohio State, but there is no easy way to tell a kid his offer is off the table..........break-ups are messy in most cases...........Matta and staff obviously did not see the progression they needed to see with Wright.........

Wright may have had his feelings hurt but it was not to late for him to earn another offer............

Maybe it is just me, but this is not a big deal...........situations change and programs needs change in a two year span.........

Sounds like that name is J.D. Weatherspoon. Is this a case of Matta looking for something different, ie. a bigger, more physical player, or does 'spoon have more upside? The timing implies a trade up of sorts.

Madison ? One of the strengths of the Wisconsin men?s basketball staff over the years has been its ability to recognize prospects before other programs and offer those players scholarships.
Current Badgers Jon Leuer and Jordan Taylor fit that category. So does Vander Blue, a consensus top 30 prospect for the Class of 2010 who recently withdrew his oral commitment from the Badgers.
Could Cameron Wright be the next?
The Badgers were the first school to offer a scholarship to the 6-foot-5 swingman from Cleveland Benedictine High School, but the two went their separate ways after Wright verbally committed to Ohio State. Wright decommitted from Ohio State in April and the Badgers were the first high-major program to extend him an offer, something Benedictine coach Rob Stircula said happened two weeks ago.
Wright is considered a three-star prospect (out of five) by rivals.com and a two-star prospect by scout.com. Most of his scholarship offers are from Mid-American Conference and Horizon League programs, but it may only be a matter of time before higher-profile teams get into the mix. Stircula said Indiana offered Wright a scholarship last week and that Georgia Tech and Minnesota recently joined a list of interested teams that includes Cincinnati, Dayton, Miami, Notre Dame and Xavier.
?A lot of the majors want to get him on campus before they offer him,? Stircula said. ?They want to make sure he?s ready and that he is really serious about them.?
Wright plans to make a decision in November but will make a handful of unofficial visits in the next couple of weeks in order to pare down his list of schools. Stircula said Wright plans to visit Indiana early next week followed by trips to Xavier, Dayton and Ohio University. He?ll be at Notre Dame on June 10.
Wright plans to come to Wisconsin on June 11.
?He is an excellent passer,? Stircula said. "He gets the team involved. I don?t care what all these recruiting websites say, ranking players and the top 100. It?s all out the window. His first step, I?ll take it against anybody in the country. He is so explosive with that first step and he finishes really well in the open floor.?
Wright seems like the type of player poised to increase his stock.
In addition to possibly having a chip on his shoulder from a feeling that Ohio State lost interest in him, Wright was dinged up last summer, which may have hurt his standing with recruiting analysts. Since then, he became a Division II first-team all-state player.
?He?s a guy that is a structure guy,? Stircula said. ?When he knows where guys are supposed to be, he makes all the right plays.?

DAYTON ? Cameron Wright, a highly regarded basketball prospect in the 2010 class, learned in April that Ohio State had reneged on a scholarship offer 18 months after he committed to the school. But the Cleveland Benedictine High School shooting guard said he has no hard feelings about that elbow to the chops.

?It?s in the past. I?m way over that. God has a plan,? he said.

What may have helped soften the blow for Wright is that he?s discovered he?s a much-coveted recruit again. He?s got scholarship offers from Wisconsin and Indiana, and he visited Notre Dame on Friday, June 12.

He also made an unofficial visit to Dayton last weekend, and the 6-foot-5 senior-to-be is giving the Flyers serious consideration.

?Just getting down there seeing Dayton, I was really impressed,? he said. ?I wasn?t really expecting the quality of facilities like what I saw. It was a big shock.

?I already know (senior guard) Marcus Johnson. As far as the coaching staff, everybody seems like really good people. The relationship could really grow if I go to Dayton.?

After his freshman year at Benedictine, Cameron Wright committed to play bas ketball at Ohio State.

That may have been too soon for Wright, and apparently too early for the Buckeyes.

"They just sort of lost interest in me," said Wright, entering his senior year of high school.

The 6-4 guard was the only Northeast Ohio product among the 80 players (only four from Ohio) at the King City Classic at the Wolstein Center this week. More than 100 college coaches watched, virtually all the big names such as North Carolina's Roy Williams, West Virginia's Bob Huggins, Florida's Billy Donovan and the Buckeyes' Thad Matta.

"My phone has been ringing from coaches who haven't called before," said Benedictine coach Rob Stircula, mentioning calls from Georgia Tech, Minnesota and Notre Dame.

It's believed that Wright has received offers from Indiana and Wisconsin of the Big Ten. He mentioned Dayton, Notre Dame and Cleveland State also catching his interest. Most Mid-American Conference schools would love to sign him.

"I am wide open right now," said Wright, who said that the Buckeyes' interest in him faded after assistant coach John Groce said goodbye to Columbus to become the head coach at Ohio.

Wright refuses to be critical of the Buckeyes, realizing that recruiting is a business. But he did nothing wrong, OSU simply decided some other recruits had more promise.

Will Cameron Wright come back to bite Thad Matta and Ohio State?
I've been asking myself that question while reading reports of the Cleveland Benedictine senior's play since he rescinded his commitment to Ohio State in April.
He reopened his recruitment because, compared to the others in the recruiting class of 2010, he was feeling ignored by Matta. The program's interest in Wright, a good athlete and defender on the perimeter but not a good shooter, waned after assistant coach John Groce left for Ohio University last summer.
Other schools have filled the void, including Indiana, Michigan State and Wisconsin, all of whom have offered Wright a scholarship.
"A year ago there was a school of thought he'd reached a plateau," Dave Telep of Scout.com wrote today. "Well, he hasn?t. To his credit, Wright has turned it up and his play has been steady the second half of the month. His jumper is falling more consistently these days."
Telep reported that Wright also has received offers from Notre Dame and Pittsburgh and that Georgia Tech and Florida also are watching him.
My guess is he takes that Ohio State chip on his shoulder to one of the three Big Ten schools.

Offers from Michigan State and Pitt... not too shabby. I'm happy for Cameron.

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Benedictine senior guard Cameron Wright has made an oral commitment to play college basketball at Pittsburgh, he said today.

Wright, a 6-4 guard, had committed to Ohio State after his freshman season, with then-Buckeye assistant John Groce his primary recruiter. Groce, though, left Ohio State in June, 2008, to become the head coach at Ohio University. Wright and his Benedictine coach, Rob Stircula, have said Ohio State seldom contacted Wright after Groce's departure, and believing the Buckeyes had lost interest in him, Wright pulled out of his commitment in April.

Wright, who averaged 20.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists last season, chose Pittsburgh after considering offers from Cleveland State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, UCLA, Indiana and Georgia Tech, among others.

"The coaching staff and the atmosphere at Pittsburgh is great," said Wright, who has a 3.7 grade-point average and will likely major in communications or sports management. "The coaches are great people. They are very honest."

Wright said he does not harbor any ill feelings toward Ohio State.

"I'm very excited," he said. "When it happened [with Ohio State], it happened. You just want to move forward."

Wright told The Plain Dealer in April: "I still thank the Ohio State staff for even recruiting me. It's nothing negative. At the end of the day, it's all a business."
