Triway 'hounds' Plymouth
Point guard Brook Turson: The 6-foot-3 Turson, rated one of Ohio's top juniors, did score a game-high 21 points. But the Titans followed him, hounded him and harassed him to the bench in frustration with four fouls late in the third quarter.
Turson tried to rally the Big Red in the fourth quarter, getting them within a point on a basket that made it 53-52 with 2:15 to play, but Triway made eight straight foul shots to ice the win.
Turson added eight rebounds, but got off just 14 shots from the floor and was 7-of-13 from the foul line and had six turnovers as Triway shadowed him from baseline to baseline.
"He can do a lot of things and he's such a strong guard," Snoddy said of the All-Ohioan. "He didn't shoot it a whole lot, but we couldn't keep him out of the paint.
"We tried a box-and-one on him at the beginning, but we thought they were getting too many easy shots from other guys so we just sent one, two, sometimes even three guys at him. We tried to hound him and double-team him at every opportunity. He's a very good player, but you have to do that ... he had to work like crazy, but he still got 21 (points) and eight (rebounds)."

Huh? If his DAD is the head coach, was he really able to hide such a thing from his "coaches" all season? I'm not diminishing his sacrifice or that he played in pain, but that sounds kind of EXAGGERATED to me. Good Luck to him but some of these stories trying to make kids out as superman just strike me a tad oddly.

The thing in that article that is most telling is about the minor surgery he had on his left pinky toe after the season. He played all year with pain in it and had a secondary infection from a cut he received earlier in the year to it (was told it was not staph which is good). He never let the coaches know he was in pain or even talked about it til after the season, when the pain made it hard for him to even stand up. The numbers he put up were great and he wasn't even close to 100% this year. I think you'll see his numbers increase next year as Plymouth will look to push it up the court more and get out and run.

This summer should be an interesting one for him. He's always played very well in AAU and I think that will pay off this summer more than any. He's always been pass-first but I think he will look to score more and that could help as well. The 16U CBIZ is one of the better 16U teams in probably the nation. They are really well coached and have some very good players.

Brook scored his 1000th career point in the 5th game of his Junior year in the 82-80 victory.

He doesn't live with his Dad and no his Dad did not know. Like I said, he hid it all year, I wouldn't make such a thing up.

Lots of mid-majors showing interest right now. He's been on a couple trips, mostly just in the area and states surrounding. Has said he may just try and walk-on at Ohio State. Matta knows who he is and I would imagine he would be a "preferred" walk-on, though how much weight a preferred carries over a regular I don't know.

He must really love the Buckeyes if he would be willing to give up full ride at any college to walk-on at Ohio State. To be honest, I have never heard of a "preferred" walk-on for the basketball team and I really don't know what type of benefit "preferred" status would get him. I just wish the best of luck for him and keep us updated on his season.

What?? Hey, I love The Ohio State University just as much as the next guy, but Brook has over a 4.0 grade point average, and can play some good basketball. I'd be thinking walking on at a Stanford, or some Ivy league school if walk on was in his future. I think Brook is very, very capable of getting a D1 schlorship, Northwestern may come to mind as a school he may want to consider? The Kid just has to stay focused on whats important to him when deciding on a school, and keep working hard on his game.

"We came out slow. We've talked about quick starts the last couple games and we really haven't done it," said Turson's son Brook, Plymouth's All-Ohio point guard. "I think it was 18-15 before dad got into us on the bench. And then we came with a 12-0 run, something like that."

The younger Turson was his usual self, scoring a game-high 25 points to go with five rebounds, four assists, four steals and three blocked shots.

"You try to run two guys at him, but he always finds the open man," Lucas coach Andrew Carver said. "He's so unselfish and his teammates hit the open shots. It's tough to play defense against a team like that."

Plymouth responds to Coach Turson’s tirade in non-conference win

“Unfortunately, just enough was good enough for us tonight,” Brook said. “We could have came out here and really put the game away in the first half, then we came out dull in the third quarter which is not what we needed to do to build upon going into Tuesday night against New London.”
Turson led Plymouth with 25 points on 9 of 13 shooting with four rebounds, four assists, four steals and three blocks in 27 minutes.
The decisive second quarter run was started by junior guard Brook Turson, who was honored before the game for becoming the quickest player in Plymouth history to reach 1,000 career points.

The one thing that has always stood out about Brook is his Basketball IQ. He's not a superior shooter, or greatest athlete in the world, but he sees the floor and knows what to do with the ball. He just knows how to play and win. I think i've said it before, but he makes everyone else on the floor better. Brook makes the extra pass, and takes over when he has to. He's a General. Now he needs to put in the work to hone his skills on his own time. Practice, practice, practice.

Brook Turson joins his his brother in 1,000-point club

Plymouth junior guard Brook Turson offers just a simple shrug of the shoulders when the subject is brought up, knowing full well it is something he will hear about often as his career as a Big Red basketball player pushes forward over the next year and a half.
?It?s a nice accomplishment ... I guess,? Turson said. ?But a lot of the credit goes to my teammates. I?ve had really good supportive teammates the first two and a half years here and it?s a team award that I think I share with all the guys I?ve played with. It?s all really nice, but the main thing is to win basketball games on a consistent basis.?
There is also the inevitable wait of the Turson family tree officially becoming the flag bearer for Big Red basketball. If Brook averages 20.2 points per game in his team?s remaining 13 regular season games, he will become the school?s all-time leading scorer while brother?s Graig (1998-02) and Brett (2001-05) will bumped down to third- and fourth-place on the all-time scoring list, respectively.

Graig scored 1,247 points while Brett is right behind with 1,163 points.
Furthermore, Brook?s father, 16-year Big Red head coach Brad, earned his 200th win this season and was already the school?s all-time wins leader while, just last season, Brook broke the single-game scoring record with a 51-point performance.
?To have my brothers and myself in the 1,000-point club is really nice for my family,? Brook said. ?And with my dad being the all-time wins leader as well it really just adds to everything. But again, like them more than anything, we just want to win games. I think it just runs in our blood.?

AFAIK a "preferred" walk-on in any sport means they don't have to go through the dreaded "walk-on tryouts" and sweat making the team at all. They are added to the roster the minute they hit campus. So it does mean something! No money from an athletic schollie but they can get academic assistance, Pells etc. and are immediately on the team.

I would think that if he has a 4.0 GPA that he probably could get an academic scholarship to The Ohio State University and play basketball but I also think that it would count against the magic number of 13. If he is good enough and Matta is aware of him, the departure of Crater might open up some room for him. However, I think we might need a PG next year but that's getting off-topic. Back to Brook.

Litlbuck, I don't take this as a negative post. I also just want the best for Brook. Academically, situationally, confortability, and affordability. I do know Brook loves the Ohio State, it's a mecha for him, much like it is for most of us OSU fans. I have a diploma from OSU, amungst other colleges and universities, it works well for me. But Basketball shouldn't be the biggest deciding factor in a college decision, you go to college for an education most importantly, He just needs to stay away from the SEC-haha

Plymouth's quick start dooms New London

Twenty-five seconds after the opening tip All-Ohio guard Brook Turson stroked a 3-pointer from the top of the key and the Big Red were rolling.

Brook Turson had another outstanding performance, finishing with 24 points, eight rebounds and seven steals, but he wasn't alone. McCalley was a force inside ending with 13 points and nine rebounds. Dylan Brown added six rebounds, while Cory Brown and Brandon Burton each had seven points.
