Plymouth star passes another milestone
By CURT CONRAD ? News Journal ? January 3, 2009 Brook Turson awkwardly stood near midcourt as his father and coach, Brad, presented him with a commemorative game ball before last week's game against Lucas. For the first time in his storied high school career, Plymouth's All-Ohio point guard looked uncomfortable on a basketball court. The younger Turson was being honor- ed for topping 1,000 points, a milestone he achieved in an 82-80 win at Monroeville on Dec. 20. He gave his dad a hug, acknowledged an appreciative crowd then did what he has done so many times before -- orchestrated a win. His 25 points, five rebounds, four assists, four steals and three blocked shots were key in a 69-50 victory. "It's nice to have 1,000 points," the 6-foot-3 junior said, "but I want to win more than anything. I think everyone in that locker room is the same way." "It's tough to play defense against someone like that," Lucas coach Andrew Carver said. "He takes the ball to the hole and his vision is so good. Someone out of the corner of his eye that regular players wouldn't see, he sees and gets them the ball. "You try to run two guys at him and he'll find the open man. He's not selfish. Then his teammates hit the open shots when we ran at him." Boys prep basketball: Plymouth star passes another milestone | mansfieldnewsjournal.com | Mansfield News Journal |

Ranked Plymouth survive scare by St. Peter's
By CURT CONRAD News Journal MANSFIELD -- The state's 15th-ranked Division IV team was treated like an unwelcome guest by St. Peter's on Tuesday night. But Plymouth prevailed 66-60 thanks to Brook Turson's 26 points and 13 points from Ryan Adams. "We didn't play like the 15th best team in the state tonight," said Turson, who had a game-high 11 rebounds and added seven steals. "We're not the 30th best team in the state tonight, the way we played. ... We need to step up if we're going to live up to the billing. "We're going to take everyone's best shot." Collins was especially impressed with the play of Turson. "You hate to coach against him, but he's a great kid to watch," he said. "He just seems to have control of the game. He's a great kid who has a great attitude and he works hard. "He is outstanding, but they've got some other kids, too. They are a well-coached, hard-working team." www.mansfieldnewsjournal.com | Printer-friendly article page photos: mansfieldnewsjournal.com | Mansfield Photo Galleries | Mansfield News Journal |
