Macon names top three

Quarterback Dwight Macon (Steubenville, Ohio) is coming off a great junior season. He passed for 1,600 yards and 14 touchdowns, while rushing for another 12 touchdowns. Macon led Steubenville to a 12-1 record.

He has scholarship offers from Kansas State, Kansas, Wyoming, Bowling Green, Ball State, Toledo and Central Michigan. He said he is looking at all of those schools as well as Iowa.

"Most of the schools are recruiting me as a quarterback, but some as an athlete," Macon said.

At the top of Macon's list are Ball State, Toledo and Bowling Green.

"I'm going to decide when the season starts or soon after," Macon said

QB- Dwight Macon- Steubenville- The leader of Big Red's offense arguably had a more impressive day as a defensive player. Macon played cornerback, and is not shy about hitting ball carriers. He did a tremendous job fighting off blocks and making solid hits. At quarterback, Macon moved the offense with some effectiveness. But, he does not appear to have Division-1 arm strength. However, Macon does a really nice job on bootlegs, locating the open receiver and getting the ball delivered quickly and accurately. He is a heck of a football player, and will find a position in college, but his lack of arm strength calls into question whether or not that position will be quarterback.

Chippewas gain athletic signal-caller Dwight Macon

ATH/QB Dwight Macon (Steubenville, Ohio) has committed to sign as part of Central Michigan's Class of 2010, NittanyNetwork.com's Bill Kurelic reports.

He was also holding scholarship offers from Kansas, Toledo. Bowling Green, Ball State and Wyoming.

"I just thought it was the best fit for me," Macon said. "They were one of the first to offer. They were pushing hard and I think I'll have a pretty good chance to play early there."

Last fall, threw for 2,424 yards, 28 touchdowns and four interceptions and rushed for 837 yards and 12 touchdowns. As a sophomore he passed for 1,666 yards and 14 touchdowns while also rushing for 1,290 yards and 12 more scores.

"Quartervack Dwight Macon finished 8 of 16 for 79 yards and both scores. The first came at 3:15 of the second half when Trey Wiggins hauled down a 7-yard scoring strike. Anthony Pierro caught the other TD reception with 1:37 remaining in the third. Macon made good on 1 of 2 PAT attempts.
Massillon's three points came at the end of the first half. Jeremy Geier booted a 26-yard field goal with no time left on the clock.

Inkster (MI) 36 Steubenville 29

Michigan's Inkster High School did what 67 teams before them were unable to do: defeat Steubenville in a regular season contest. Inskter also snapped Steubenville's 53-game home winning streak dating back to 2001.

Despite facing a three-point halftime deficit, Inkster built a 28-15 fourth quarter lead and was able to hold off a Steubenville team that entered ranked second in the state in Division III.

Steubenville's dynamic senior quarterback Dwight Macon nursed an undisclosed injury during the third quarter when Inkster built their lead. However, Macon returned in the fourth quarter to stage an impressive comeback. The Big Red recaptured the lead at 29-28 with 1:19 left.

However, University of Michigan-bound Inkster quarterback Devin Gardner silenced the raucous "Death Valley" crowd with a poised drive capped off by a 63-yard touchdown pass with 34 seconds left, his second of the night. He finished with 288 passing yards.

Steubenville's last drive was promising, but thwarted by a Inkster interception in the endzone as time expired.
