Wowza! Too bad we're full up at the LB position. (well, in terms of whom we're still pursuing (hicks))

Easy to see how this one will play out. A school will tell him they want him at LB, and as soon as fall camp starts his hand will be in the dirt within the first week.

Exactly...any school who tells him that will know they are lying. They may give him a week at LB but at 6'7 250, there is no way he will stay there. Interesting to see we aren't on the list but then again, I'm sure OSU has told him he isn't playing LB here.

Petey should call him and tell him he's his #1 LB...

...meh, having said that I suppose you could argue that we did the same thing with Andy Miller...so I guess I'm the pot calling the kettle black...

Andy Miller actually got his shot and played some TE both of the past two seasons.

TE...tackle...they get the same amount of balls thrown to them here But it's the same deal with Fragel, he is a big guy that can move decent and he will get his shot at TE as Miller did. He just may stick, Ballard did at 6'8 270. Point is those guys have a legitimate shot to play TE at that size, no way you see a 6'8 250 lb. LB in college. Beyond that, he just does not look natural at LB at all...you can tell he is 100% a DE at the next level.

Andy was given a full year at TE. It didn't work out. He had his chance. We'll see if William is given the same.

They said the same thing about Ted Hendricks... Plus i've seen him with my own eyes he does have good instincts, fluidity and technique for an Over-Sized LB. The one fatal flaw I saw with him is him in Man coverage VS. a scatback/slot on a long route. He's good for about 15 yards, but after that, they'll separate from him. But of course a good DC wont put himself in that situation .

LSJ Blogs: Hey, Joe: What the heck, I guess I'll bother William Gholston, too

Quote:
....

Later in the evening, Hondo Carpenter caught up with Gholston and got a totally different story. Asked whether he was considering a "decommitment," Gholston said:

?No way man. I heard that also. You know what I said to you and I stand by that. I am a Spartan. I am going to be a Spartan. I am not wavering and I am not going to attend another school.?

See, it's things like this that remind me of why I try to avoid football recruiting like it's swine flu, despite its obvious relevance. Grown adults curling up in a ball on the floor because of a few words from a teenager is weird. Teenagers! Born in the 1990s! Everyone is different, but I sure came up a few clues short at that age. Yet guys like Gholston are now getting scrutinized like pros. You know, like in this blog entry.

Speaking of blogs, you have to love the ability to bury the lede like this. It's paragraph 11 and we're finally getting to my call today to Gholston. A journalistic abomination in any other forum. Quite simply, I asked him what happened. He reiterated that he is fully committed to MSU and misunderstood what Farrell was asking.

"I thought he asked, 'If you went somewhere else besides MSU, where would you go?'" Gholston said. "I misinterpreted the question and I answered it to the best of my ability."

So are you planning on visiting other schools?
"I don't plan on going."
And what about your position in college?
"I don't know exactly what position I'll be playing at MSU, but I'm willing to play whatever will get me on the field the fastest."

...and that, William, is likely DE because that's where you belong.
