Michigan was his first offer. That's the one that he wanted from the beginning.

Worm, I guess my question is, if your ultimate goal is to make it to the NFL (I understand that isn't everyones priority) why want to play in a system that under-utilizes receivers and has a horrible track record of putting players in the league??

He isn't going to get better than a Michigan offer. He sure wasn't going to sniff a Buckeye offer. I think he made a good decision.

better in what sense though?? If you were a high-school wideout during Nebraska's run in the early 90's, would you rather go to Nebraska because it is your best offer, knowing you aren't going to see many balls, or go to a less acclaimed school where you will be developed??

By all means, these kids are living their dreams. I'm just shocked at the quantity of receivers that are committing to Michigan. It'd be like Texas Tech stock-piling RB's. It's a bit confusing.

I'm fine with it. They can stock pille all the receivers and skill guy they want and continue to neglect recruiting linemen and defense. You still win games with the line no matter what style of offense you play and you still have to be able to play great defense to win titles.

I'm fine with it too.....it helps the Bucks. Michigan loads up on slot receivers like its a precious material, even though it has been proven over time, Rodriguez under-utilizes his receivers. Again, I liken it to Mike Leach stock-piling RB's. What purpose would it serve?

It is a bit befuddling. With Tater-Tot at QB, it looks like DR will be passing a bit more than his WVU days (maybe more of the Tulane offense), but that's still putting an awful lot on the absolutely unproven shoulders of an undersized true frosh QB. Maybe DR is selling that? I don't know, but as he continues to neglect the need areas on defense, my smile grows larger and larger.

As for D.J. it seems lie he's always been blue, so good for him. Maybe he'll be a sleeper and climb to the top of that (enormous) pile of slots/recievers DR is stockpiling or maybe he'll switch to DB. Worm, do you know if he's being told offense or defense in m*ch*g*n?

D.J. never wanted a Buckeye offer, so it doesn't matter. He was UM all the way, and that's what he got.

Depends what you want. Williamson obviously loved Michigan so he got the offer he wanted.

I don't know about "a horrible track record of putting players in the league," although hardly anybody does that better than Ohio State. Personally, I think that D.J.'s game suits UM's system well. It's not like UM uses a pro style offense, but D.J. should get plenty of opportunities to produce offensively, especially in space. Besides that, he may get some opportunities on special teams. It's early, but a definite possibility.

Understood. As an FYI, I'm no talking about Michigan's track record of putting players in the NFL. They are well represented in the league. I'm talking about Rodriguez's track record....he just doesn't put offensive players in the NFL. Steve Slaton and Pat White were his recruits, so I'll give hm those, but after that, offensively you have Chris Henry and then who??

It just isn't a system that moves guys to the next level....

I understand where you are going billmac91, but if I were a 18 year old, field streching TE that ran a 40 in 4.9 and JT offered me a schollie to tOSU, I would commit on the spot. It looks like that's what happened for Williamson.

I think Michigan's early class is pretty decent so far.

Devin Gardner, QB (complete stud, Top 100 type player)
Ricardo Miller, WR (see Gardner)
Jeremy Jackson, WR (maybe not Top 100, but he's definitely one of the better WR prospects in the nation, I'd compare him to a Brian Robiskie type, as he is the son of a coach and has grown up around football his entire life)

Then the three Ohians;

DJ Williams, ATH (probably a 3* player to start off, but his athletic ability is supposedly off the charts, can never have enough good athletes IMO)
Antonio Kinard, DE/OLB (probably a 3* that will wind up at DE, a position of great need for U-M)
Jerald Robinson, WR (this is the one that makes the least sense to me, because UM has enough receivers and receiver prospects, what they need are some DB's, so unless this guy plays Safety as well he probably doesn't even fit into the class)

Under normal circumstances, I'd say D.J. is an intriguing prospect and could be a good pickup foryou guys, but DR's recruiting strategy continues to baffle me. Very slanted to the offensive side of the ball again. Why he continues to just load up on athletes and slots/WRs makes no sense to me. I'm sure he'll end up moving some of them to DB, but why not focus on actual DBs? Why not focus on elite position players? As far as never having enough athletes, that's true to an extent, but when you have a number of clones that don't have a true position, it can be. Like I said earlier, he's still recruiting like he's at wvu, not one of the name universities in CFB. Miller looks like a stud, but a lot of questions are swirling around Jackson from a camp last week. Williams and Robinson seem interchangeable to me. Gardner was a big get, I'll give that. Kinard looks like another defensive project. These kinds of players could run over Big East defenses, I don't see it happening in the Big-10. Defensively, maybe he could get away with making athletes DBs and taking other project defensive players, but he's at um now and playing in the Big-10. It doesn't add up to me.
