Even though it was a basketball game, Inkster's Devin Gardner grabbed a lot of attention on Friday with a few special visitors on hand - namely Ohio State coach Jim Tressel.

Devin Gardner, a junior swingman and quarterback on the football team who had Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel at the game to watch him along with Corwin Brown from Notre Dame.

2010 year of the QB in MichiganRecruiters looking for a quarterback for their 2010 recruiting class will want to stop in the state of Michigan. There are at least three outstanding junior quarterbacks in Michigan who already have Big Ten scholarship offers on the table.

Some interesting recruiting battles are already taking shape. Michigan State and Michigan will be right in the middle of the action, but there are plenty of other suitors for the big three as well.

Sitting at the top of the list is Devin Gardner (Inkster, Mich./Inkster). Gardner threw for 1,886 yards and 26 touchdowns during his junior season. He rushed for 1,401 yards and scored 22 times.

The 6-foot-4 and 205-pound Gardner has scholarship offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa, Wisconsin, Purdue, Nebraska and a few others. He recently attended a junior day at Ohio State and was invited to one at Notre Dame.

The Vikings' star quarterback could be throwing passes to Gordon at U-M or be the opposition if Gardner chooses to attend Ohio State, a school so high on him that head coach Jim Tressel visited recently and watched Gardner play in Inkster's basketball game against Wyandotte Roosevelt.

The day Tressel showed up at Inkster, Corwin Brown of Notre Dame also was in attendance and U-M made sure it had a representative in the area that day when it learned Tressel was in town.

"I was pretty excited at first," said the 6-foot-5, 200-pound Gardner of the Tressel visit. "My heart was beating really fast, but as the game went on I just settled down and played within the team. I like basketball, but football is my first love.

"After basketball season, I'm just going to keep working out and working hard."
