5-10 is good height for a CB first of all, and secondly he's only 16/17 years old, the 165 pounds means nothing. He still has plenty of time to put on some weight.

They did love what they saw, which is why they offered! I think the potential of panning out at DB is good enough. Some of the greatest CB's to ever play never even really played CB in high school. Charles Woodson was primarily a RB when he played high school ball in Ohio, and he turned out to be arguably the best CB that the B10 conference has ever seen.
I think what is most important for the CB position is athleticism and flexibility, i.e. does the player in question have the quickness, the flexible hips, and the recovery speed needed to play CB. I think obviously the Michigan staff felt like he had all of those tools and that given time they could mold him into a solid player at CB.
