The staff blew this one, IMO...

I also don't think it is very likely he would be turned with an offer, just he would get offered if staff thinks he is worthy.

As for your first point, and this was just my guess about why he did not get an offer, he just doesn't seem to be very strong. In his video, from scoutingohio, on offense it is over when he gets tackled, no yards after the contact. In his blocking videos, most of the time he doesn't seem to overpower people that are smaller than him. I don't claim to be an expert, of course he is thin now and he would gain weight and strength at college. I would love to listen what other people thought about his video and his eventual potential.

I think we missed one here...Don't think this is a Brandon Moore situation...Smith shows that he can actually block some in his video...I know we don't use the TE, but this is a guy that almost makes you use the TE in the passing game...

Agreed with 40, he was a decent blocker. He wasn't exceptional but certainly a player who could block and catch, but catching is where he excels. I really am disappointed on this one but at least UC gets him I guess.

From the UK site...visited a UK practice because they are recruiting him hard still...says he is still committed to UC but likes what he saw at UK...says he is also being recruited hard by Alabama, Penn State, Michigan and Tennessee.

Can't see why the Bucks wouldn't jump in on this now. The kid in Illinois would seem like a great get, but I feel much better about Ohio kids who are also rated pretty good in the rankings.

Cincy commit plans USC visit > Palmetto Sports Recruiting News

Cincy commit plans USC visit By Eric Guimaraes

TE Alex Smith (6-5 255) of West Chester, OH has verbally committed to Cincinnati but says he is going to take a look at some other schools. "I want to see what some other schools have to offer," said Smith. He has offers from USC, Michigan, Penn State, LSU, Michigan, Cincinnati, NC State, North Carolina, Duke, Purdue, Wisconsin, Louisville, and Kentucky among others. Smith says he is planning to visit USC, Miami, Florida, Penn St ,Wisconsin and the North Carolina schools this summer. "My mom had a friend who graduated from South Carolina and she has a lot of great things to say about it," he said. "She says football is really important there and they have a great tradition." Smith had 29 receptions and five touch downs averaging 17 yards per catch as a junior. He remains committed to Cincinnati.
Why isn't he visiting tOSU? I had thought you guys offered but I guess it never got to that point...still I'd assume if he were truly looking around he would call tOSU's coaches and tell them that, than end up visiting tOSU.

right.....I was going to say, it really doesn't have anything to do with tOSU love or hate. Until tOSU shows they can utilize a TE as a pass catcher under Tressel, we won't get the Alex Smith's.......is what it is.

Hopefully Jake Stoneburner (who came in as a WR) can change he view of our TE. An Aaron Hernandez type season would make Ohio State a very nice look to poetential TE's.

Lakota West High junior TE Alex Smith said this morning, June 9, that he will reopen his recruiting process.

Smith (6-5, 250) committed to the University of Cincinnati a couple months ago, but with recent offers from LSU, North Carolina, Miami (Fla.) and others, he felt the need to open it up again to a few schools.

He has visited UC, Kentucky and Michigan, and plans to take more visits this summer.

Smith (6-5, 250) committed to the University of Cincinnati back on Feb. 21 the same day offensive lineman Kevin Schloemer did.

But Smith said Tuesday that with recent offers from LSU, Penn State, Miami (Fla.), North Carolina and others coming in, he felt the need to open up the recruiting process again.

?I?m going to open it up to a few schools, make a few visits and make sure UC?s the best decision for me,? Smith said.

?I?ve gotten some new big-time offers, so I want to go out and see what they have to offer and take it all in.?

Smith has made visits to UC, Kentucky and Michigan, and hopes to visit schools in the South this summer, such as Miami, LSU and UNC.

Tight end Alex Smith (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) Lakota West may end up playing his college football for the Cincinnati Bearcats, but it is not a certainty at this point. The 6-foot-5 and 225-pound Smith committed to Cincinnati during the winter, but he is now looking at his other options.

"I haven't de-committed," Smith said. "But I'm going to visit some of the 20 other schools that offered. I committed to Cincinnati early and I haven't really seen any other schools."

Smith is also concerned about a change in the Bearcats' program. Tight ends coach Mike Elston will coach the defensive line next season.

"I developed a good relationship with Coach Elston," Smith said. "With him coaching the defensive line they are not sure they are going to have a tight ends coach. They might just have the tight ends go back and forth with the wide receivers and the offensive linemen."

Smith played wide receiver his sophomore season. He moved to tight end his junior year and caught 33 passes with six touchdowns.

Smith's list of scholarship offers includes Penn State, LSU, Michigan, Miami of Florida, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Illinois, Indiana and Purdue. He attended Michigan's barbeque in the Big House last weekend.

"You have to be impressed with Michigan," Smith said. "I've never seen a stadium like that. Coach Rod pulled m aside and gave me my own private tour."

Smith will soon take more trips, and one of them will likely be to State College.

"I definitely want to visit LSU and probably Penn State," Smith said. "I want to see Miami of Florida and I would like to see North Carolina and North Carolina State."
