Scout$--Fiedorowicz Down To Top Four

C.J. has a current top four of Ohio State, Iowa, Notre Dame and Wisconsin. He says tOSU is recruiting him the hardest.

That's changed since last week...Iowa was recruiting him the hardest last week...I like that the staff might be turning up the heat with Welch opting for ND.

I thought the same thing. Really seems like the staff is making a push in the past couple of weeks (new offers, etc).

Agreed. Good sign. Go where they want you the most and where you feel comfortable.

Not to mention that Welch mentioned that ND was only taking one TE in this class and he was it. Looks like Iowa is the big competition here...to be perfectly honest, I would much rather have C.J. if it could work out like that. Glad to see we are pursuing hard.

Meanwhile, the top-rated player in the Chicago area, 6-7, 250-pound tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz of Johnsburg, has 18 offers but admits Ohio State and Iowa head his list. He could commit on Sept. 12, when he attends the USC-Ohio State game in Columbus, Ohio. He admits the recruiting process "has been a lot tougher than I thought it would be."

"Originally, I thought I would commit in the spring, but now it will be in the fall," he said. "The process is pretty stressful. There is so much you have to look at. You have to know who is BS'ing you. College coaches are pulling you in a lot of different ways. I have narrowed my options, and now I must decide what is best for me."

Fiedorowicz still hasn't discounted Wisconsin and Notre Dame. Aside from the Sept. 12 trip to Ohio State, he plans to visit Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois before making his decision. It appears Ohio State would have an edge "if they use their offense like I want them to."

"I wish they used the tight end more. Last year, they used the tight end only 15 times [for passes]," he said. "If they don't change, I'll probably go to Iowa. It's not fun to be a tight end if all you do is block. I want to catch the ball, go for deep and mid-range passes. But with Terrelle Pryor in the offense, will they want to pass the ball to the tight end a lot?"

Fiedorowicz has worked hard to become the best football prospect he can be. He passed up baseball this spring to improve his quickness by sprinting on the track team. He has been timed in 11.4 seconds for 100 meters and 23.8 for the 200. He covers 40 yards in 4.5 seconds. He's a member of Johnsburg's 400-meter relay that qualified for the state finals.

Nice track times, especially for a tight end. I guess the ball is in our court with tight ends. If Jakex2 gets touches, then we're getting TJ from what that article implies.

I like this kid a lot, but I don't know if I would want him essentially more than Welch. We need to make more moves in the Cincinnati area, especially with those catholic schools. We need to break that chain where kids pretty much automatically want to go to ND. But anyways if we were going to take 1 TE in this class, I would really like this kid in S&G!

I like C.J. a lot. He is honest about the way we use our offense and who can blame him? When you are an athlete like he is, you will want to pick the school that will utilize you the best. Hopefully Stoney and Ballard are more active, because they are good weapons in their own right and it will help us with C.J., who I really like. I agree we need to get stronger in Cincy, but I think the TE's just like ND because of their offense. If we can pull 2 of Hicks, James, and Ware I'll be happy (for Cincy). In terms of talent I like C.J. better and it's not even close to me.

Fiedorowicz puts Illini at top of his list - Illinois Fighting Illini Sports Football News - IlliniHQ.com

Johnsburg tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz, ranked No. 4 at his position and No. 99 overall nationally by Rivals.com, has a new college leader: Illinois.

"I'm down to three, but right now Illinois is out in front," Fiedorowicz said.

"Just because of the people. They were just awesome. Originally, I was Iowa before I came here. I wasn't really thinking about even giving Illinois a chance when I came out here. But I gave them a chance and I loved it."

The 6-6, 250-pounder, had an impressive performance during Saturday's 7-on-7 passing tournament, showing his speed and athleticism with several highlight-reel catches. When he went up for the ball against multiple defenders, Fiedorowicz usually won the battle.

"Besides the sore part, I had fun," Fiedorowicz said. "I wish we would have got first (Johnsburg finished second in its division.)"

Now, Illinois is fighting to land him for its growing 2010 class. The Illini coaches spent most of Saturday afternoon watching Fiedorowicz from the sidelines.

On Friday, Fiedorowicz toured the Illinois facilities. On Friday night, he spent time with Illinois quarterback recruit Chandler Whitmer.

"The campus is beautiful," Fiedorowicz said. "I like all of the coaches. You can talk to them like they're your good friends. People are great. Coach (Ron) Zook, it seems like I've known him a while, like he's a good friend."

Fiedorowicz said he wants to make a decision sometime during the football season. He plans to take official visits before making his choice.

"Illinois, in the home state, I kind of want to come here," Fiedorowicz said. "But Iowa uses their tight ends a lot, so it's going to be hard to come down to a final decision."

Besides Illinois and Iowa, Fiedorowicz is also considering Wisconsin. He has offers from many others, including LSU, Notre Dame and Ohio State.

Fiedorowicz isn't letting the recruiting overwhelm him. He reads what he wants to read and throws out the rest.

Kind of surprised reading this article. I thought OSU was in his top two and now this seems to state that he is down to a final three of Iowa, Illinois & Wisconsin.

I guess I can understand why: Wisconsin uses their TE quite a bit in the passing game, Iowa was in early, and Illinois is the home team. OSU doesn't have any draw over those other than routinely winning more than 10 games and playing in BCS bowls.

Johnsburg's Fiedorowicz picks Illinois
By JOE STEVENON - jstevenson@nwherald.com

C.J. Fiedorowicz originally balked at his mother?s idea to leave one day early last month for a 7-on-7 football passing camp at the University of Illinois.

The Johnsburg senior-to-be entertained offers from Iowa, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Wisconsin last fall, while Illinois entered the recruitment process in January. LeeAnn Fiedorowicz thought her son should talk to the Illinois coaches, so they left early to spend a day in Champaign.

During his visit with the coaches on June 18, Fiedorowicz thanked his mother. ?This is where I should be,? he told LeeAnn.

Fiedorowicz, the No. 2-rated tight end in the nation by Scouts.com, called Illinois head coach Ron Zook and offensive line coach Joe Gilbert Wednesday with his commitment. Fiedorowicz (6-foot-7, 250 pounds) will be one of the jewels of the Illini?s 2010 recruiting class.

?Iowa was my top choice, I wasn?t even considering Illinois,? Fiedorowicz said. ?In the first two hours there I fell in love with it. It was my first visit, and I knew right away. At other places, it took two or three.?
