I would not put Mack Brown in that category

I don't think 5' 10'' 180lbs is a big, power back.
Is there some real interest for this kid? I mean is he really that much better than the backs we"re already going after like Corey Brown, Spencer Ware, Erick Howard, etc?

Nothing strange about it considering where he has coached, grew up etc. When he finally does land that type of back that is successful you'll understand the obsession.

Anybody else get the impression that he's much better running outside than inside? He doesn't look too comfortable in traffic, but he's got long strides and looks good in the open field.

I wasn't too impressed. He looked stiff in his movements, no real burst out of his cuts, and bounces it outside too quickly. He has good top end speed but other than that, I say he is a 3 star.

I tend to agree with RB here. He seems like a nice prospect but give me Ware or the other Brown over him any day of the week. I thought he looked a little like Pittman in some of it but nothing special popped out at me in the film.

I don't think he's very good either, other than good top end speed, he doesn't really impress in any other areas required for an elite back. I have no idea why Meyer is all over him.

JC Shurburtt: Mack Brown runs his wayinto Under Armour All-America game - ESPN

Quote:
As early as the first grade, running back Mack Brown (Lithonia, Ga./Martin Luther King) knew that he loved playing football. That's not a surprise considering the eye-popping numbers he put up at that age.

"I was playing baseball and one of the football coaches saw me run around the bases and wanted me to come out and play for him on his football team the next year," Brown said. "I did that and I scored 41 touchdowns that year. It didn't even seem like I scored that many because I just loved playing football, but I did."

Here he is on the cusp of a dozen seasons in the Atlanta area, running as he always has and putting up staggering numbers. His junior year at MLK, he rushed for 1,660 yards and 21 touchdowns, good for second in talent-rich DeKalb County. That kind of production earned him Under Armour All-American honors and has most of the powers in the Southeast and beyond chasing after Brown. Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, South Carolina, Clemson, Oklahoma and others have jumped in with scholarship offers.

In addition to the heavy-hitting college programs, Brown's name has been synonymous with the top backs in the nation from early in the 2010 recruiting cycle. How does he handle all of the attention? He's answer is as impressive as the 4.39-second 40-yard dash time he put up at the Orlando Under Armour Combine in January.

"It's just really a blessing to have all of these offers from all of these schools and to be recognized like I am," Brown said. "It's really not a distraction at all. I am just looking forward to being the best I can be next season here at my high school because we want to win a state championship here."

Brown, who says he models his game after Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, hopes to make the individual improvements necessary to help his team reach its lofty goals.

"I'm going hard in the weight room during the offseason," said the 5-foot-10, 180-pound back. "I hope to get up to 198 this season. I want to make myself a more complete back. I want to work on my blocking and improve my overall game."

Brown is one of three running backs thus far that have been named to the roster of the third annual Under Armour All-American Game, joining fellow elite ball carriers Michael Dyer (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Christian) and Jordon James (Corona, Calif./Corona).

"I know it's a big game," Brown said. "It's the third year of the game, but there have been so many great players play in the game. There were great players from Georgia last year like (Florida State signee) Greg Reid and (Georgia signee) Branden Smith and a couple of years ago they had top players like (UGA star) A.J. Green out of South Carolina and (Alabama star) Julio Jones out of Alabama. "I'm very excited to play in the Under Armour game because it's a big game with top players."

Now Brown will be one of those top players. While his speed is well-documented, he's much more than just a sprinter in pads. "What we like about Brown is his versatility as a runner to earn the tough in-line yards after contact, make the first defender miss through the cutback or simply pull away in the second level with good top-end speed," ESPN Scout's Inc.'s Billy Tucker said. "What may be most impressive is the physical upside we still see on film."

Brown added, "I think it's my explosiveness. I just run hard regardless."
He's been doing it for almost 12 seasons now. It's something he'll continue to do again this coming season for MLK and in January in Orlando at the Under Armour All-America game.
