Scout $
2/10 From the UNC site. Jones would like to make his choice by June, but says that if he keeps ketting offers at this pace he may have to stretch things out again. He plans to cut his list to five after taking as many spring visits as he can, and will focus on how strong the degree is from that school, the environment the coaches have built, and the opportunity for younger players. |

Tennessee is turning into the new Illinois. Who haven't they offered at this point?

You want to see someone who has offered everyone on the planet? Check out who Stanford has offered so far.

Not to get too far off track from Jones, but what do you think recruits are saying when they see an offer from those schools only to notice the school has offered anyone with a pulse? To me, it sort of takes some of the luster or excitement away from the offer where as opposed to a program like Ohio State or Texas for example, tend to offer kids they are serious about, not just throwing out a line and hoping to catch something. I don't know, just thinking out loud I guess.
Anyway, sorry about getting off topic, just curious as to what recruits like this say when they open up the envelope. |

Well Stanford has a narrower recruit range than anyone else. How many recruits with good enough grades, that aren't already going to USC/UCLA/Cal are in cali ?

Enough to fill a third of their 14th ranked class this time around (14 of 22 were OOS commits, most from TX).

That presumes there are actually still extremely heightened standards for Stanford football recruits. I'm sure their standards are higher than, say, Ole Miss, but are they actually higher than ours anymore? I've never gotten an answer on how an institution's standards for their undergraduate population affect and compare to their standards for their football recruits, and I suspect that's because no one really knows. Just looking at the sheer number of kids Stanford has offered at this early stage, I find it hard to believe their academic standards for their football recruits even remotely compare to those for their undergrad student body.

WR Jones has cross-country interest - ESPN
From ESPN. Has a top 5 of OSU, Texas, UCLA, Miami and USC (all but Texas have offered). Wants to make a decision before his senior season and playing time will be a factor. Also wants to major in broadcast journalism. Broadcast journalism, huh? Does he watch ESPN.... |
