Miramar had an outstanding QB last year in Eugene Smith (who will be playing at West Virginia in the fall)) who got them to the 6A State Semifinals before losing to Miami Northwestern.
McCartney was the #2 guy behind WR Stedman Bailey (also headed to West Virginia in the fall with Smith) and was one of 4 great receivers on that team. Bailey had 68 catches for 1,162 yards, 17.1 yard average for 14 TDs. Comparing the stats you see on McCartney in the previous post to Duron Carter (because both are from Broward County), Duron had 28 catches for 498 yards, a 17.8 average for 11 TDs, and you can see McCartney is going to be the man this year. BTW, Miramar played St. Thomas Aquinas where Lamarcus Joyner will be playing this year. No, they are not in the same district nor even the same class, it was an out of district game during the regular season that STA won 49-2. McCartney had the most catches of the year in any one game when he played against STA, 5 catches for 39 yards. He's a long yardage kind of guy who you'll throw to at 10+ yards and you let him create fireworks from there. Here are his full stats, http://sportstrac.herald.com/SportsT...135&sportsid=5 He was one of the top 3 receivers last year in Broward County as a junior. I'd definitely highly recommend gettting your hands on this fine man. Last edited by berryfan; 02-18-2009 at 01:51 PM. |

Scout $
2/20 By B Greene. McCarthy has been in recent contact with Ohio State, and says that Ohio State has always been one of his favorites. He likes the fact that the Buckeyes have a strong business management program as well as the fact that they put a lot of WR's into the NFL. Oregon (offer), West Virginia (offer), South Florida, Florida and Ohio State make up his early top five. |

I can't emphasize this enough, if you want an excellent surefire receiver, you can get much better than the receivers that come out of South Florida, and this one is a great one. He's got a lot more passes thrown to him than most receivers do down here and against some fierce competition (one reason LJ is the top DB out there right now). If you came for Mr. Carter last year do come and take a look at Mr. McCartney. Spring ball is just about 2.5 months away.

He was being talked about as a possible holder for the title of best WR in South Florida last season. Some guys have passed him with the "buzz" but he is a great player. Not as built physically as Ricardo Miller and not as fast as Chris Dunkley, but he has a high physical ceiling. He isn't "done" physically like those guys. He excels at being a wideout. Running routes, blocking, etc. He's more similar to a Duran Carter with more upside yet not as polished.
Edit: I should add that this doesn't come from me. It comes from someone who knows what they are talking about when it comes to Florida high school ball. Last edited by DontHateOState; 02-20-2009 at 11:39 PM. Reason: Clarification |

I'd recommend trying to get this guy, he's one of the bet WRs down here and keep in mind Florida WRs are among the best you'll find. Keep in mind, when you recruit players out of the same area and you are an out of state team (Riggs, Joyner I am thinking) this helps sell the team well. I know getting Duron Carter and Jaamal Berry helped in this respect.

You might want to ask McCartney how he would feel about that, I'd think if you're genuinely interested in someone (especially a top 100 player), you'd go after him and you wouldn't wait until Dunkley or Jones said they're not interested. You never know how the ball is going to bounce.
