Andrew Hendrix update
Posted by mikedyer at 4/7/2009 1:00 PM EDT on Cincinnati.com

Moeller junior QB Andrew Hendrix (6-3, 220) said he plans to visit the University of Tennessee April 14 or 15 as the Crusaders' baseball team is in Tennessee during spring break.

Hendrix isn?t ready to narrow anything down yet. Since the Crusaders' baseball team is scheduled play in Tennessee next week, Hendrix plans to visit the UT on Tuesday or Wednesday and possibly Vanderbilt Wednesday night. He said he might also take in some spring practices at Virginia and Louisville in the near future.

"I am considering my options for committing later (rather) than earlier," Hendrix said. "If I find the right fit then I will pull the trigger early."

Moeller coach John Rodenberg said he expects Hendrix to have more than 20 offers by the end of spring. Rodenberg said there's a "good chance" Ohio State will offer sometime this year too. Hendrix has already spoken to Ohio State coach Jim Tressel this spring. The Buckeyes requested film from Rodenberg in late February.

With PSU's 5* QB decommitting and Hendrix growing up a PSU fan, I wonder if he doesn't get offered by them and commits.

FWIW PJ didn't decommit, in fact he said after visiting Pitt twice in as many days that his plans were to be a PSU student in January (early enrollee), but he has yet to reaffirm his commitment. PSU actually offered MI QB Robert Bolden just yesterday, so it should get interesting.

I very rarely read the scout.com boards, particularly the free boards, but I noticed (presumably a poster from OH) pimping the other kid from OH, QB Faine. Just for my own curiosity, where has Hendrix said he grew up a PSU fan...or is this just common knowledge? Think tOSU will offer in-state for QB regardless of what happens with Montana, either Hendrix/Faine? thanks.

Thought I read on the scout site that he had decommitted or was really close.

He said in a rivals video interview that he was a fan of Penn State.

Not sure. I have scout sub and PJ insists he is still a PSU commit and plans to be a PSU student in January, but "wants to be sure". Mom is a PSU grad, dad loves PSU, PJ grew up around all-PSU and is pretty much always wearing something PSU, hell even his eye black says PSU.

------

I really like this kid Hendrix, I think either tOSU or PSU would be very lucky to have him. I wish PSU would offer and see if he would come in with another QB, but I bet we will hold off for a while and see what happens with PJ and Bolden.

Colleges interested in Moeller's Hendrix | Cincinnati Enquirer | Cincinnati.Com

Quote:
Moeller junior Andrew Hendrix could've never imagined the attention he's received from college programs during the past five months.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound quarterback wasn't even the full-time starter last summer - he won the position after a preseason competition in August. But Hendrix's highlight film has created a surge in his recruiting stock this spring. "It's definitely been a pleasant surprise," Hendrix said last week. "I did not expect (the offers) this early."

As Moeller started its spring break Friday, Hendrix had offers from Stanford, Nebraska, Cincinnati, Miami University, Louisville, Boston College, Northwestern, Illinois, Virginia, Kansas, Vanderbilt and Indiana.
"People have told me he might be one of the best (quarterbacks) in the country," Moeller coach John

Rodenberg said. "I see him getting 20 or more offers once spring is over."

Hendrix previously thought he would narrow his college list this spring and commit before Moeller's season. But his mind changed a bit last week after he received a Facebook message from St. Xavier defensive lineman Patrick Muldoon, who will play for Wisconsin in the fall.

"The main thing I said was it would be tough to decide without taking all your official (recruiting) visits," Muldoon said. Muldoon, who made his oral commitment to the Badgers shortly before Christmas, took all five of his official visits. Though it's tempting to commit early, Muldoon said, the ability to ask questions of current college players is very helpful.

"(The players) will be straight-up and you will learn what the defensive linemen think about the (assistant) coach - whether he's a good coach but will really (tick) you off or ride you hard," Muldoon said. "It's information you wouldn't really learn from the coaches."

Hendrix, who is also a third baseman/pitcher on the Moeller baseball team, said he has appreciated Muldoon's advice. Muldoon said he has given similar information to St. X junior offensive lineman Matt James. Muldoon said he wanted to pass along the advice given to him from a couple of former St. X players, including Darius Ashley and Stephon Ball, who now are at Louisville.

Although Ashley and Ball did not take their five official visits, Muldoon said all three players had shared experiences during their recruiting processes, such as being overwhelmed with calls from recruiting Web sites, having expensive meals on official visits and hearing similar sales pitches from coaches at various schools.

"Unless you are 100 percent sure (about a school), you shouldn't (commit early)," Muldoon said. "If you end up backing out of a commitment, it can reflect poorly on you."

Hendrix isn't ready to narrow anything down yet. Since the Crusaders' baseball team is scheduled to play in Tennessee this week, Hendrix plans to visit the University of Tennessee on Tuesday or Wednesday and possibly Vanderbilt Wednesday night. He might take in some spring practices at Virginia and Louisville in the near future.

"I am considering my options for committing later than earlier," Hendrix said. "If I find the right fit, then I will pull the trigger early."

1-I think Hendrix is pretty open about the process, and academic programs will play at big part. I don't think being a PSU "fan" will have a big role. I have never seen that-his being a PSU fan- before.

2-Faine's dad or other relative is posting stuff on the scout board, I think it is a misguided attempt to catch the coaching staff's attention-it won't happen.

I'm really glad we will know about Montana early on because imo, Hendrix should have an offer sent out immediately if Montana opts elsewhere. I think Hendrix is more impressive physically than Montana, but I just slightly favor Nick with the genetics and fundamentals.

Yea, but Nick Montana was on TMZ last night. Was Andrew Hendrix? I don't think so.
