'10 IL WR Kyle Prater (USC Verbal)

He makes some really acrobatic catches but his speed worries me a bit. He looked painfully slow in one of the first clips in the first youtube vid. The play where he's running across the field. People knocked Duron Carter's speed but I think he looked a good deal faster than Prater. Still like him overall though.

Kyle Prater Evaluation (list him as 6-5, 195 lbs. WOW)

Prater is a mammoth wide receiver with a frame that has yet to even fill out. He has rare height and possesses possibly the longest wingspan of any WR in this class. Is long and lean and extremely flexible for a player his size. Displays supreme body control and the ability to adjust to poorly thrown balls and make acrobatic catches look easy. Drives off the line with good burst and has a huge stride. Gets into routes quickly and shows nice awareness for coverage. Certainly knows how to use his frame to shield defenders from the ball and provides a massive target for QB's get the ball to. Catch radius is enormous. He is a galloping prospect that uses his athleticism, size and wingspan to muscle defenders and gain position as he works downfield. Is far more explosive than one might think for a player of his size and has some wiggle after the catch. He has exceptionally quick hands. Snags effortlessly and can contort his frame in awkward positions to make catches behind him, low and in front and also way above his head. Always snatches the ball extended out away from his frame and does not allow close coverage to take a swipe at the ball in contested match-ups. He is a guy that at first glance does not run very well, but once he gets into the open field shows adequate speed for his size. He is not a screamer by any means, but his size and long arms allow for him to be a factor in the vertical passing game because QB's will have no problem just tossing the ball up for grabs with great confidence he will come down with it. Regardless of whether he can run by people or separate from tight coverage, this guy expects to come down with the football every time it's in the air. Overall, Prater may be raw as a route runner now because he gets by on size and athleticism, but once he becomes crisp and learns to rely on more than just talent he could become a real mismatch and is a redzone nightmare for DB's. Excellent prospect.

Prater blown away by Oklahoma visit

One of the top prospects in the Midwest, wide receiver Kyle Prater (Hillside, Ill./Proviso West), continues to see his list of scholarship offers grow. He hopes to cut the list down to a manageable number in the next few weeks.

"I believe I have exactly 30 offers now," Prater said. "I'm still narrowing it down a little. I would like to have it down to 10 by the end of May. Then I'll begin to get it down to five."

Prater's list of offers includes Illinois, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, USC, Michigan State, Iowa, Penn State, Wisconsin, Purdue, Colorado, Cal, Minnesota, Nebraska, Vanderbilt, Stanford, Northwestern and Kansas. USC and Colorado are his most recent offers.

Prater attended spring games at Illinois, Notre Dame and Oklahoma. He plans to visit Michigan near the end of May.

"I really liked Oklahoma a lot," Prater said. "Notre Dame and Illinois were nice too, but Oklahoma really blew me away."

The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder caught 60 passes for 948 yards during his junior season. He averaged 15.8 yards per reception and had nine touchdowns.

Prater is in no hurry to select a college. In fact he plans to go through the entire recruiting process.

"I'm still looking at all my options," Prater said. "I'll see what is up after my Michigan visit. I'm going to take my five official visits."

My fault, it was a misread on a thread on Scout's forum from someone saying they wanted to offer him...not that he did.

But he seems to have an interest in OSU, if we've already offered Tyrone Williams (at least from what he has said), it seems like it'll only be in due time before we offer Prater....at least I hope.

Kyle picked up some more offers from the likes of Alabama, Tenn, and Missouri. Says OSU is about the only one that hasnt offered and that he had been interested in OSU, but they havent been contacting him lately.


Im kinda disappointed by the no offer to someone with seemingly high interest in OSU. Really like Prater as a player

USC, Oklahoma, Illinois, Michigan, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Miami, Alabama, Boston College, Wisconsin, Colorado, Arizona, Michigan State, Northwestern, Nebraska and Vanderbilt are just some of the schools that have offered.

The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder, who caught 60 passes during his junior season, would like to soon trim his list to about 10 schools. Prater has visited Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Michigan, and Illinois -- all of which are likely to make the cut.

"I like Oklahoma," Prater said. "I like Michigan too. I went to the barbecue they had on Saturday (at the Big House). It was real nice. I have a strong interest in USC too. Tennessee is another one I like, and Miami. There are a few others too."

Prater has scholarship offers from all of the schools he mentioned.

However, after he trims his list Prater has no plans to make a quick decision on his final destination.

"I'm going to get it down to 10 schools sometime this month," he said. "I'm going to wait and take official visits. Not too many people take all five, but I'm going to try to take most of them or all of them."

Prater will be in Champaign, Ill., on Saturday attending the Nike Football Training Camp at the University of Illinois.

Fortunately he still wants one. It seems like there'd be room for Dunkley & Prater, even though both would be improbable.

Apparently the staff just likes Williams better. I don't think they plan on taking more than one of the taller non-burner types and they must feel pretty confident in Williams. The other WR offers are speedsters.

For what it's worth, Duane Long mentioned in his blog that he also likes Williams better.

Tyrone Williams - I see a Rod Smith situation with Williams. His comments say he does have an offer. I think it is a conditional one like with Smith. I think this is an underrated kid. He did not play alot last year with the knee injury. I think recruiters and recruiting services have overlooked him because of it, plus the grade problems. The only receiver I have seen in the region who is better is Prater.
