Shaw is one of the quickest and speediest players in this class of wide receivers. What he lacks in height and bulk, he makes up for with his ability to separate and get over the top of defensive backs vertically. He is a very smooth, fluid athlete with cornerback-like feet and hips. He is diminutive in stature, but lightning quick and reaches top speed in a hurry off the line. He can push defensive backs off of him because he is a significant vertical threat. He will likely end up splitting time at slot receiver and be a huge contributor in the return game. Gets into routes quickly and can stop and start, while setting up defenders with double moves. He makes sharp, crisp cuts out of the break. If he avoids contact at the line or downfield in coverage, there are few players that can handle his change-of-direction skills. He can make multiple defenders miss when in space. Shaw is the type of player you want matched up in as many one-on-one situations as possible. He has quick, soft hands and can pluck balls thrown outside of his frame. He has all the qualities you want in a route-runner to develop, but he is not there yet. Rounds off cuts too much, doesn't always eat up cushion and gets by on being better athletically than everyone else at this level. He must become more disciplined and polished, but the tools are present. He isn't going to be a red-zone threat and must add bulk and muscle to his upper body to become more physical. He should be a candidate to see the field very early.

Top pass-catcher Kenny Shaw (Miami/Dr. Phillips) listed his favorites for ESPN affiliate Web site NoleInsider.com.

"FSU is on top. Then I have Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Florida and Ohio State," he said.

Shaw elaborated on the chances of another school swaying him from the Seminoles, "I don't know really. Going to the camp it definitely made it feel that way. They are not that too far ahead of everybody, but they are definitely up at the top."

Additionally, the 6-foot, 170-pound target said he'll take five official visits and recruiting slowly. Several other programs including Miami-FL, Michigan, LSU, South Florida, South Carolina, Kentucky, Rutgers, Boston College, Stanford, UCLA, Kansas, Syracuse and Central Florida have also offered.

Florida, Georgia, and Alabama also remain in the mix for Shaw at this point, but, given the discussion had on Saturday after the Southeast won the Gridiron Kings championship game, it is hard to imagine the youngster having a change of heart and going anywhere else other than Florida State.

"Recruiting has been going good, and I'm just handling my business," Shaw said. "We started practicing Monday and our first game is on the 30th against Flagler Palm Coast. My top schools are Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State and schools like that. Florida State is my leader right now and I'm looking to decide in the Under Armour All-American game. At FSU, I have a good relationship with my position coach (Lawrence Dawsey) and I like the atmosphere up there. I haven't really decided on visits yet, but I know I am going to visit Ohio State."

Shaw did pretty good in the spring game, I should have that cut today. He had 2 catches for 2 TD's. I think Ricardo benefited more from Kenny than vice versa. Shaw stretched the field for DP, I'd be more concerned on how Shaw will do without QB Nico Ranieri. Ranieri was a steal for Colorado State.

Agreed. DP has some good games early on in the season. I will definitely catch the Olympia game.

Dr. Phillips WR Kenny Shaw may have a front-row seat for one of college football's biggest games of the season.

Shaw (No. 24 receiver by Rivals.com) told the Sentinel that he is "50-50" about making an official visit to Ohio State on Saturday when the Buckeyes host USC in a prime-time ESPN-televised game.

The Buckeyes are one of nearly 30 schools that have already offered Shaw (ranked No. 2 in the Sentinel's Central Florida Top 100) scholarships. Ohio State currently has eight players from Florida high schools on its roster, including two from Central Florida in former East Ridge DB Chimdi Chekwa and Edgewater OL Michael Brewster.

Citing the quick turnaround it would take to get from his Dr. Phillips High football game at Kissimmee Osceola on Friday night, to Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday, star WR Kenny Shaw has opted to stay home this weekend.

Shaw, a 6-foot-1, 175-pounder who ranks No. 2 in the Sentinel's Central Florida Top 100, as well as No. 9 in the Sentinel's Florida Top 100 overall recruiting rankings, said he didn't like the time frame involved in him getting back to Dr. Phillips from Osceola tonight. He would then have to get up and head for the airport to catch a flight to Columbus, although the Buckeyes' game with USC on Saturday is a night game.

He has yet to make an official visit and does not currently have any scheduled. The senior is quite focused on the task at hand, and that's a state championship for the Panthers. Last week, Dr. Phillips opened with a 24-0 win over Orlando Edgewater in a game that saw Shaw catch four passes, two of which went for TDs (32 and 13 yards).
