Very composed young player, that the college coaches love. Plays years beyond his grade level. Also had visits to Kentucky and Notre Dame.

Recruit says he finds right fit with Boilers
Molock, a sophomore, likes coach, players and academics at Purdue
By Jeff Washburn / Lafayette Journl Journal & Courier
Posted: October 20, 2009

Point guard Kyle Molock was in no hurry to make a college decision.

With three seasons to play at Dublin (Ohio) Coffman High School, the 6-1 sophomore could have watched the recruiting process unfold.

But after making an unofficial visit to Purdue last weekend, Molock saw no need to delay a decision, accepting basketball coach Matt Painter's scholarship offer.

"I love the Purdue campus and West Lafayette," Molock said Monday. "I like that it's more secluded than some metropolitan campuses that I've visited."

Molock, who hopes to major in engineering, business or pre-med, said he admires Painter.

"I knew he was a great guy . . . a genuine person," Molock said. "The thing I really like is that he really is focused on you the person, not just the basketball player.

"I like his coaching style and the fact he likes to play at a fast tempo. He gives his point guard the opportunity to run the show. You can sense by watching them that he lets his players play."

I have been tracking the Ohio 2012 class for 3 years. Purdue is getting a good one. He has all the tools and intelligence to be special. This is one who should have never left Ohio. Below is what ESPN Recruiting says:

October, 2009: Kyle is a solid and strong point guard. He has an excellent basketball IQ. He is a natural pass first point guard but has really improved his ability to score in the last year. He has a solid and strong body and is good at getting in the lane and creating for himself and others. He has an improving jump shot with range to 19 feet. He is a good defender with good quickness. Molock is a good athlete and still has a very good upside. He is a good get for Coach Painter and the Boilermakers as they go into Ohio and pull out one of their best sophomores. April, 2009: Kyle is a solid no nonsense point guard. He has great size for a young point guard. Molock is a pass first point guard that is always to trying find an open teammate or create for someone to score. He is a solid athlete and should get even better in time. His size enables him to see over most points he encounters. He is a solid scorer. He is effective at getting into the lane and shooting over people. He is also a solid slasher, getting to the rim and scoring off the bounce. Molock does need to improve his shooting. He has range to 17 feet but he mostly goes to the basket. He is a good rebounder with his size and athletic ability. Kyle is also a solid defender and understands defensive concepts.

I'm certainly not going to slam the kid, as there's plenty to like about his game, but I have never seen high-D1 written on him.

All the major scouting services beg to differ. No offense but I'm taking their word for it.

No offense taken. We all see different things. I just haven't seen the kind of court vision or handle that to me spell top collegiate PG.

Of course, remember that we OSU fans have Mike Conley foremost in our memories!

Conley was one of the best PGs I have ever seen at the high school level and performed very well at OSU. Molock is only a soph, hopefully he can really develop his game even more over the next 3 years!

This is starting to get a little confusing. Indiana schools are coming to Ohio to get players and we are going to Indiana to get similar players. It seems like the coaches could get together and save on gas mileage.

2012 is a long way off. Many kids will improve greatly and some kids will slide. I just don't understand how coaches can project our players are great to turn out 3-4 years from now and I am not saying that he will not be the next best thing to Conley Recruiting is just crazy sometimes.
