ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia Tech quarterback Reggie Ball was released from the hospital Monday after being treated for viral meningitis.
Ball became ill last week and spent two nights at Emory University Hospital. He missed a 28-13 victory over Connecticut, ending a streak of 27 consecutive starts for the No. 15 Yellow Jackets (3-0).
Coach Chan Gailey doesn't know when Ball will be able to return to practice or if he'll be able to play Saturday against fourth-ranked Virginia Tech.
Ball was hospitalized after complaining of severe headaches and dehydration. Viral meningitis, commonly found on college campuses, is an infection of the fluid in the spinal cord and surrounding the brain.
The illness is rarely serious and usually clears up in about a week.
Redshirt freshman Taylor Bennett started in Ball's place against UConn, throwing a touchdown on his first college pass but completing only 11-of-30 for 142 yards. Bennett would start again if Ball can't play against Virginia Tech.
