Penn State wide receiver Derrick Williams will miss the remainder of the 2005 season after suffering a broken arm in Saturday's contest at Michigan.

A true freshman, Derrick Williams broke his left arm when tackled on a kickoff return late in the game. He will be sidelined 3-4 months, according to Dr. Wayne Sebastianelli, Penn State's director of athletic medicine. The Greenbelt, Md. product had made a season-high six receptions for 59 yards, returned two kickoffs 22 yards and run for eight yards against the Wolverines prior to the injury.
The nation's top rated prep player in 2004, Williams has made a significant impact in helping Penn State emerge as one of only nine unbeatens in the nation going into this weekend's play. He is the Nittany Lions' leading receiver with 22 catches for 289 yards and one touchdown. He also has 22 carries for 105 yards and three touchdowns and has returned 13 kickoffs for a 21.1 average.
The former Eleanor Roosevelt High School All-American has accumulated 668 all-purpose yards to rank second on the team with a 95.4 average. He is averaging 11.7 yards on his 57 touches this season.
A starter in all seven games, Williams caught a 36-yard TD pass from quarterback Michael Robinson with :51 left to beat Northwestern, 34-29, on Sept. 24. The play was selected the "Pontiac Game Changing Performance" of the Week. He also ran for Penn State's first two touchdowns in the 44-14 win over Minnesota on Oct. 1 and ran 13 yards to get the Lions on the scoreboard in their 17-10 win over Ohio State on Oct. 8. The injury to Williams is Penn State's sixth season ending injury since pre-season camp began and the second to an offensive starter. Senior tackle John Wilson, a starter in the first five games, suffered a serious injury to his left knee in practice the week of the Ohio State clash. -30-
