STRONG START
Perry 6-foot-11 sophomore Kenny Frease opened eyes with a strong summer. He’s building on those performances by averaging 15.7 points and 13.0 rebounds in helping Perry to a 3-0 start.
Frease is using increased strength and more developed moves to power his way to points inside. But he also has improved his ball-handling and shooting. He has a reliable jump hook, and he’s hit two 3-pointers.
“He put 25 pounds of muscle on in the offseason,” Perry head coach Rob Toth said. “He worked very hard in the weight room, and he’s a gym rat. He takes pride in his ball-handling. He’s probably a lot further along than people think he is.”
Against St. Thomas Aquinas he made a nice dribble-drive along the right baseline before running into traffic and dishing to a teammate for a shot.
“He helps us a lot,” Perry senior Matt Kolic said after the Aquinas game. “He’s under a lot of pressure from the other teams with double and triple teams. But he’s handling it. ... He helps us get open.”
