RECRUITING GAME: Mainland cornerback Avery Atkins is beginning to find out how dearly people are clinging to his words. This week, it was reported by many media outlets that the rising senior had committed to Florida. Things have changed a bit over the course of this week.
"I told (Florida) that I committed, but I should have used other words," Atkins said on Friday. "I would love to go Florida. They are my top school right now. But my options are still open, if somebody has something better to offer."
Atkins says he will still attend a camp at Louisiana State in coming weeks, and his top three after Florida are Florida State, Miami and LSU. At this time, he said he plans to use all five of his official visits in December and January. No matter what Atkins decides, he is not bound to his decision until national signing day the first Wednesday of February 2005.
Also, Mainland quarterback Jonathan Garner has said that Florida is one of his favorites after the Gators offered him early this week, and he will make his college decision known sometime late next week.
