Was there a difference in the technical procedure? Sounds like Washington (and his parents) requested that he be released from his signed LOI before getting official and final notification regarding admission. Therefore, technically, the decision to not admit Washington was never formally given.
In Kennedy's case, I think he got all the way to the final admission decision--meaning that, for the record, Ohio State did deny admission.
I could be wrong, but I think that's the technicality.
