Hurricanes football fans and running back Bobby Washington can circle Oct. 23 on their calendars.
That's when the University of Miami plays North Carolina State in Raleigh, N.C.
Washington, a Killian High graduate, is already there, though he has not yet been admitted.
Washington, who signed a letter of intent February to play football for the UM, flew to Raleigh on Wednesday in hopes of being admitted in time for Friday's opening practice.
After an ACT-test controversy at UM altered his football future, Washington was released from his UM letter of intent Tuesday.
Wolfpack spokeswoman Annabelle Vaughan said Wednesday evening that ``no announcement could be made about a prospective student-athlete until he or she is officially accepted by the school.''
Killian offensive line coach Terrence Craig said Washington already was communicating with N.C. State after a Monday meeting with UM officials resulted in the Parade All-American deciding to leave the Hurricanes.
''UM did Bobby wrong,'' Craig said. ``There wasn't anything he did to deserve getting released. He wasn't like Willie Williams -- he was a good kid.''
