The Firebirds outrebounded the Skyhawks 47-25 and limited Fairborn to 28.8 percent shooting to earn the school first district championship since Lakota won a 1992 state title.
"It's huge," coach Mike Mueller said. "There is a proud tradition of success in Lakota basketball. We always win more than we lose. Lately, we've always run into the proverbial brick wall up here."
Lakota West won its first district championship on its third try since the district split into two high schools in 1997.
Senior Vince Cook had 18 points and classmate Josh Chichester totaled 15 points and 16 rebounds for Lakota West, the state's No. 8-ranked team.
