Ordinarily, you may be right. But a 9-3 record (now going to a 12-game regular season) implies two losses to team other than Ohio State, with at least one of them most likely being against ND or MSU. Also, the two losses to Ohio State won't be just two losses to their hated rival...they will be the fifth-in-six and sixth-in-seven game losses respectively. I don't think Ohio State has ever won five games out of six, let alone six out of seven against Michigan. That would have to be totally unacceptable to Michigan fans and the administration.
EDIT: We did win six of seven (1957-1963) and five of six (1960-1965) under Woody Hayes.
