Marshall lands QB from South Point, Ohio

Chris Smith, who enters his third season as starting quarterback at South Point (Ohio) this fall, has given a verbal commitment to attend Marshall.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Smith earned second-team All-Ohio Division IV honors last season after passing for more than 1,500 yards and 15 touchdowns and running for nearly 700 yards and six scores. He also carries a 3.2 grade-point average.

Smith is scheduled to announce his decision today at a news conference at South Point High School.

Marshall and West Virginia were the two schools that had offered a scholarship to Smith.
